it's been a whole day, i think if it WASNT true, asik would have responded by now. Because i'm sure he knows about it.
I hope Asik stays. He's the perfect good-enough-to-be-a-starter backup/maybe the other half of twin tower experiment. He's also an insurance in case Howard needs recovery time. It's hard to give up a guy who worked hard for you.
i want him with the rockets too. and i think morey is right with a good back up center like asik is better than an upgrade over tjones or dmo. thats not the question. the question is if asik is okay with being a back up playing max 20 minutes a game. hes just turned 27 years old and got a good deal of $25 M over 3 years, but im sure hes looking forward to his next contract. 4 years and $50 M range. that will probably be his last big contract as well
If you read what other people post, you can (slowly, yes) understand their point of view. If you don't really read what they post and keep repeating yourself, you don't end up looking very smart. Nobody denies that Asik might want to be traded. But ESPN did some of the most pathetic "reporting" any of us can remember seeing from July 2 to July 6, including reports about the Rockets, so... yeah, healthy skepticism is healthy. Maybe Omer does want to be traded -- I agree it's totally possible -- but as long as ESPN is the only one carrying the news, welp... fool me once, as they say.
I like how since the article has nothing substantial that it could say about the information from the "source," other than vague story that Asik asked to be traded and the Rockets refused, it then proceeds to pad the article with McHale talking about how Asik is "down in the dumps." As if this validates the anonymous source somehow. Lazy non-journalism worthy of a gossip magazine.
Could we work something out for Tobias Harris? He's extremely underrated and would fit perfectly at the 4.
I was watching channel 13 news and the sports reporter said, "there are some reports that Asik has requested a trade, but we are not hearing that's the case." Twin Towers Baby
I would think Nicholson would be a better fit...personally...I would definitely consider trading Asik for this kid/pick...
So happy right now... I hope we give Lin a chance to shine this season, and McHale can somehow find a way to play Howard and Asik together and have the Twin Towers, v2. There would be zero layups / dunks if this happens, not to mention the rebounding advantage... I can understand if Asik wants to go elsewhere though - good centres are rare these days, and he would be the starting C at most other teams.
If i were Howard, i would meet with Asik frequently throughout the rest of the offseason. Keeping Asik on the team would give us a powerful one-two punch at the 5.
Asik: Why don't you just work on your jumper and we'll be fine. D12 might still need time to recover. It's on McHale this time, to convince Asik to stay and to make it work on the court. Man, Gortat situation 2.0.
Does Omer strike you as somebody who wants more personal fame and success or winning a ring? If you feel it's the latter, then those so called reports don't make any sense. I feel that he was given a solid 20-25 min pgm, he would be satisfied with it as long as we keep on winning.
exactly! thats why he left chicago and drose to play with the rockets and jeremy Lin and a bunch of rookies (way before the arrival of Harden) last year... oh wait.
My thoughts exactly. That's where it all began. One ESPN reporter pulled it out of his [hind parts] while reporting the breaking Howard news and like lemmings the other reporters then began repeating it as if it came from Asik's own mouth. I too am calling bullsh** until I see something directly from Asik or his representatives.
I still don't understand why we can't have twin towers (Asik and Dwight) and a crazy slashing backcourt. In theory, the problem is the twin towers will pack the paint leaving a slashing back court space-less. But in design we could have the triangle implemented as Dwight, Lin, Harden, and Parsons can all create for themselves giving Asik room to hit the boards with Dwight.
i think he left the windy city for $25 M. and that contract he signed will expire in 2 years when hes 27 years old. im sure hes looking for his next contract at over $10 M a season. hard to get that when he plays 20 mins a game
