Asik Could Absolutely Compete for Minutes with Dwight

Dwight draws doubles and can't be covered in single coverge. We've seen the halfs this year when teams play Howard straight up and he's dominated scoring over 15 points in the first half on extremely high FG%.

Asik is a very good defender maybe even great in certain aspects, but dwight is a force all over the court. When have you ever seen asik get two week side blocks and a steal were he poked the ball out from behind (very impressive I might add) in the first 5 min of the game this is why he's the 3x DPY. He's also a menace on the rebounds although i think asik is the 2nd best rebounding center to Dwight so the drop off isn't much.

Just wait till the playoffs come around and everyone is locked in, you will see Dwight turn into superman on defense. He def worth the money we gave him because he does what we need the most and thats be the biggest baddest guy downlow every night. He doesn't have to score 25 a night although we would All love it if he did because that's what we think superstars are supposed to do, but if you do look at the center position he's still head and sholders above every big in the league in the paint on both sides of the ball. On top of being the biggest guy in the court. He's the guy who's going to take out Durant and Lebron to win a chip, he can make those guys second guess coming in the paint.

With tjones looking good and the spacing getting better allowing the shooters to get in rythem we have seen a drastic improvement in the offensive, defensive and rebounding of the team and it has produced wins. If jones can keep hitting shots and playing like this our defense is going to be legit downlow because you have two big guys who can cover ground quick and both our great weak side shotblockers.

I'm excited to see how this plays out with jones and if he can keep it up. If he does the rockets are a real threat to win the championship.

Nothing will happen until December 15 when Howard can be traded.

was at the game last night my observations

-howard will average 2 more rebounds than asik based off his athleticism, he is a better rim protector also because of this he can gets more weak side blocks, only thing is he takes a lot of plays off. Maybe because of the team we were playing idk. He never really sets picks & seems like he doesn’t like to. Always calls for the ball which slows down the offense even when he is not in a position to catch it, its not about having players that cant feed the post like some say here. Howard can get called for 3 seconds every play if he is not calling for the ball he is just roaming around ball watching.

-asik does not have the athleticism howard has but he never takes a play off. On offense he can is always looking for something to do when he does not have the ball. He always runs out and sets picks on the perimeter, problem is he can’t finish if he rolls but at least the guards can. Asik will not get you the blocks howard does but the takes prides in protecting the rim. When a switch happens he shows more effort in coming out of the paint to stop the jump shot vs howard. so even though howard is more athletic asik gets out there faster.

Whoever gets asik will be a happy camper

& cheers are low for dwight. People are like finally when he scores in the post. They clap loud when he makes a free throw they like to encourage him on the line.

When asik came in the game people cheered loud for him and jones leaving. They also wanted him to score was like gassing him up whenever he touched the ball. He still has a alot of respect from rockets fans that attend games I guess from last years play. Not sure about people here on CF. & his free-throw shot is wet this year, he is focused when he is on the line.

Even though it is blasphemy (like one of my suggestions earlier this season to bench Parsons), I agree with the OP. Even though both are fundamentally defensive centers, they are drastically different in the way they impact the game on both sides of the floor as the Play07 observations indicate. When Howard is tired/hurt/injured/uninterested, Asik can be at least his equal on both offense and defense.
