bottom line: its overpriced/overhyped Chinese food for ppl who dont know what chinese food is supposed to taste like...
i'm asian and I think that place is ok, I'd rather go to another chinese place that cheaper and more authentic It is what its, its Americanized Chinese food, just like how Carino's is "Country" Italian, not Italian food. if you want authentic Asian food, go to a family party who's asian, and its buffet style
Vietnamese here. It's not authentic but I still think it's great. Not sure why all the hate. I eat at plenty of hole in the wall places. Can be great food there too. Stinky tofu place in Rainbow Plaza (Beltway and Bellaire) that you have to go get your own water/tea comes to mind. Doesn't mean PF Changs is bad because it caters to Americans, is clean, has good service, and isn't authentic.
I don't like PF Chang's, it's overly priced and doesn't taste half as good as the places you find on Bellaire from like Eldridge to Gessner. But if you are looking for a nice clean asian place that fits that mold, I'd recommend Pang Tais on Westheimer and Wilcrest.
Is it sad that I think you might be a former poster, and I just realized who you are? Or am I completely wrong?
I think PF Chang's is okay. It's not the best, but certainly not disgusting. It's not authentic, and I wouldn't even really call it Chinese food, but it tastes fine. Lettuce wraps okay, as is Mongolian beef. My parents, who lived in China until they were 30, love PF Chang's and like to go to the one in Boca Raton often.
Not sad, he made an annoucement when he changed names, and even had a "formerly known as" sig for a while I think.
The VAST majority of Chinese restaurants in the US are Americanized. Heavy on the oil; heavy on the meat; heavy on the salt/soy----and it is almost impossible to get something spicy without it being cloyingly sweet. PF Changs really isn't that much different than most. The only reason people are hating on them is the same reason people hate on The Eagles, Starbucks, Microsoft, etc. Too much market share. It makes people feel cool to go against the mainstream. Oh sure......they'll offer up all kinds of well worded explanations as to why something mainstream sucks, but at the end of the day, they are just trying to lift themselves up above a known success.
I don't like most of the dishes at PF Changs, but their orange peel chicken and mongolian beef are pretty good.
I am not Asian, did not vote in the poll and have never been to PF Chang's. I have never had a remote interest in trying it based on descriptions of it from friends. Give me a small Vietnamese noodle house/sandwich shop or a quaint Thai cafe and I'm satisfied.
I used to work at Chang's and I'm Chinese as well. There's some decent stuff, but overall, thumbs down.
People ask for white meat chicken because it isn't fatty and chewy like dark meat chicken is at most chinese food restaurants (non-authentic ones) It isn't b/c it is less fattening. I am not asian and I think PF Changs is mediocre at best. Kam's, Fu's, Hin's and China Stixx are better and cheaper. But it isn't as if PF Changs is trying to market itself as an authentic chinese place
