I think that is Smiths point at this day and time there should be no need for translators these players are pro's and should be able to speak English well enough to get through a interview. Let take Bregman he learned to speak Spanish to better communicate with his teammates all it takes is effort. Not saying that Smith could and should have stated his point better so that it didn't have a racial tone.
The difference between Stephen A Smith and Rachel Nichols in their incidents? 10 million dollars that's why Stephen A Smith can give a fake apology just like Rachel and suffer no consequences he's bringing in the suckers, i mean viewers that's all that matters to ESPN Notice how in his apology he mentioned 'Walt Disney company' yeah, we know who the real boss is @Os Trigonum @JumpMan @dachuda86 What does his capital letters "BLACK" have to do with a media person belittling the top athlete in a sport because of their language? Have you heard Marbury speak English? Did Stephen A ever say that about him? @rocketsjudoka
You are comparing communicating with teammates in private versus communicating with the press on camera, on the record. Very different. There are practical reasons why it makes sense for the "face of the league" to be a good communicator. It obviously would make them more relatable to the American audience -- and MLB is an American sports league. It's one thing to point out that fact, another thing to fault the player or criticize the player for not speaking better English. I didn't listen to Stephen A or Kellerman, but if they were implying that the player should be criticized over his lack of English skills, then to me that's dumb. He's not getting paid to be a fluent English speaker.
he’s apologized to Nigerians and Japanese But I think he needs to say it in Japanese and Nigerian Without a translator
I'll give credit to Stephen A. Smith for coming on air and apologizing. I think what he said about the Nigerian team was worse than what he said about Ohtani but it was good of him to step forward and apologize for it rather than dig in and double down.
I don't think he was saying it to be racist but trying to make a point about the sport and the face not speaker fluent English. If we look at it Baseball has more non english speaking player then any other American sport even most nba and nhl player speak pretty good English.
I don't think it's that bad, we all know Steve A is an idiot and loves cheese doodles. What I don't like are the woke Asian social justice warrior jumping at every opportunity to steal Ohtani's spotlight. They act as if they were watching baseball before but they don't, lol. Jeremy Lin does not watch baseball so why does he need to comment on every godamn thing?
Yeah he made it dramatic Nobody is attacking Asians because he dissed Ohtani. Thought his apology was good enough to the people he cares about The Walt Disney company
Lin got his taste of 15 minutes of fame and now wants to hang on to it with his fake social justice and fake Christian activism. Yeah it’s fake. Look at Justin Bieber’s pastor who had to step down cause he was banging all these women… and his wife knew about it and didn’t care
How often do you see the greatest player of this generation (Mike Trout) communicate? Ohtani is beloved by the media with or without his communication skills.
had to look up what he said about the Nigerian team looks like Kwame Brown needs to come give this fool some more of momma’s cookin
