Yes. Cardona would have been great with his tear drop type of a shot. Speaking about taunting, how about putting Tubid and Yeo. :D Shooters like Alapag and Hontiveros were surprisingly left out. Politics? Ritualo is just too trigger happy. Gone were the days of the pure shooters like Caidic.

Ha, guess I should do a better scouting job. :)

My impression of Phillipines bball teams is often lack of effort on the defensive end. They have enough offensive skillsets (although 3 pt shooting tends to off in major tournaments, comparing to teams like Korea and Iran. Even Qatar and Japan have stepped up their 3 pt shooting these couple of years).

I heard your country might not send the best players in Asian tournaments in the past. So how would you rate this current team?

More deciplines and concentration on defence would definitely bring your team back to the top three Asian teams which also means an appearance on the World Championship stage.

    A headsup to y2Joem and Rocket86,

your national team will play against Japan in 6 hours of time. Check out atdhe.net as I am pretty such they will broadcast the game.

Don't be fooled by Japan's lackluster performance last night. Apparently they are saving energy and all three teams Korea, Phillipines and Japan have been a lock to the second round out of group A even before the tournament begins.

They would never underestimate Team Japan. The Japanese have the height and if they start hitting their shots then its all over. The problem of Team Philippines is that they did not have enough time to play as a team. This team is composed of professional players that play for their mother teams whole year round. They started practicing as a group only months ago. Their Defense is sub par but their offense is a concerned. Unless they click in their outside shot, I do not think they will have a chance against China, Iran and some of the Middle East teams.

I hope they won't, the Philippines had to win all the winnable games prior to their showdown with the powerhouses in the next round (Iran, China) for better seeding......

They better get those rebounds or else it good night. Height is a factor and gang rebounding is essential to counter this.

The team would need all the luck and all the games to hope for any chance to advance to the quarterfinals. Keys to the game are rebounding and how the team counters the 3pt shooting of the Koreans .

I'm interested to hear what other Asians here think of team Philippines and other teams, as well.

I think Lebanon is really strong, with NBA sized players (backcourt and front court) who have enough skills

Lebanon: a perenial power in Asia! a Solid Veteran IMO still has my favorite Asian player Fadi El-Khatib as there Focal point in Offense! plus some Good former NBA players pick up Jackson Vroman and Matt Freje and NCAA player Brian Beshera

Korea: Well one of the darkhorse this Season has former Trailblazer NBA pretty boy :D Seung jin- Ha as there Slotman plus Hotshot Shooters Hee-jong Yang, Min-Soo Kim, plus American Dong Jun Lee coach by Hur Jae the guys who always breaks pilipinos Heart!

Jordan: Rashim Wright stop this guy you have Fighting chance to win against them.

as for China everybody knows there strength.. actually anybody in ASIA can win the Championship! because CHINA Has no YAO :D

wow Asians in this forum are converging here.....nice,,

Without legit pure shooters (ala allan caidic of the past, ritualo, hontiveros or alapag) The Philippines would be doomed if the opponent would utilize their size advantage.......On the lineup right now are volume shooters (Yap, Helterbrand),...

I just hope that RP would magically qualify for the worlds,,,But the team has to overcome Iran, China, Jordan , Korea again, Lebanon and all those former Soviet States

Too tall, The team had its chances. Great day shooting the 3pt shot but they got out muscled by the inside game of the Iranians.

Just read a report from China that Fadi El-Khatib has gained 50 lbs (22 kg) since 2007 and is now an ineffective fat-ass against the better teams (4 pts on 1-7 shooting against China, I think).

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/cba/2009-08-11/20464529941.shtml

He was always strong in the Ron Artest mode, but man, Fadi has become a Fatty.

Me too. I liken them to the current Rockets, no star players, but gritty players.
