His obligation to the CNT comes first, I think.

Not if it conflicts with the NBA season. He is committed 100% to the Rockets during the season. Now, with training camp I dont know cause last season he was clearly a late arrival.

Even if we assume that FIBA Asia did not update it's website (doubtful), the original schedule would suggest that the event is actually 9 days, not 14. If it started 9/20, it'd be done around 9/29. If training camp starts in the beginning of October, then he should be available on the first day.

So, the Rockets camp will probably open around October 3. Yao will be done probably by October 1 or 2. What's the big deal?

It is reported to be mid Spet or late Sept. No final decision has been made.

The article makes it look like it's a firm decision (direct quote from the chairman of the Asian Basketball association), although not yet officially announced.

The "big deal" is that those three weeks of rest and "mental health time" he was supposed to have before the beginning of the NBA campaign have evaporated.

Remember the schedule last year. Even if the tournament ends October 1/2, expect at least a week to get his business settled, hop on a plane, and get minimally settled beck in the States.

He will have to learn JVG's system on the fly, this time without the safety net of teammates who know it....

It doesn't matter.....if he looks tired at the end of the year, just blame it on the coach.

If he gets tired at the end of the year and the coach keeps having him catch the ball in the left low baseline area and go one on one while everybody else stands around checking their voicemail at the three point line, I certainly will blame it on the coach.
