I'm not sure where you're getting that. The way you and Major have posted the quotes they both sound about as evil.

    Somewhat relative to this topic...

Russia to Sell Anti-Aircraft Missiles to Iran

    http://www.mosnews.com/news/2006/05/26/russiatoiran.shtml

Russian defense minister Sergei Ivanov Friday reiterated Moscow’s commitment to supply Iran with sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles, Interfax news agency reported.

“If there are no extraordinary circumstances, it (the contract) will without doubt be fulfilled,” Ivanov was quoted as saying.

Defense Ministry officials have previously said Moscow would supply 29 sophisticated Tor-M1 air defense missile systems to Iran under a ˆ546.5m contract, according to Russian media reports.

The move was likely to upset the United States, which last month called on all countries to stop all arms exports to Iran and to end all nuclear cooperation with it to put pressure on Tehran to halt uranium enrichment activities, AP added.

Tehran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but the United States and some of its allies suspect Iran is trying to develop weapons.

I say bomb Iran! Bomb them with designer jeans and hip hop CD's. Bomb them with computers and make the whole country wi-fi from satellites. Beam Ameican Idol into every home. Resistance will be futile. The staid old mullahs will fail miserably in the face of crass materialism.

I don't think we would win them over with American Idol. American Idol is terrible.

    Because he had nuclear elephants.

    -derail-

I was watching the history channel the other night about Hannibal and how he occupied parts of Italy for 13 years right under the Roman's noses and how his 30,000 men slaughterd 50,000 Romans at Cannae (more than the US lost in Viet Nam over 10 years). It must have been a real advantage in those days to have battle hardend veterens over the part time farm boys that most of the armies were composed of. The sheer terror of facing all the chopping and hacking must have been unimaginable.

thats why i mentioned alexander. i was watching history channel on how alexander took out the whole persian army 250000 men vs his 40000 men.

he had the phalanx and used cool tactics like the 'mouse trap.

As opposed to the sheer terror of being blown apart by landmines or cooked by napalm? War has always been terrible whether it was fought sharpened bits of stone or stealth fighters.

Yes, but you have to admit that it was a whole lot more fun back then. Old school vs. new school, no contest! :p

True but to me it would be a lot easier to pull a trigger than to actually hack somebody's arm off. And I would feel somewhat better knowing that after a hot bullet wound I could be rushed off to the field hospital for some morphine versus getting my leg sawed off sans anethetic and almost assuredly dying of infection.

I frankly don't know how grunts of any era face up to it. Just watching Saving Private Ryan gave me battle fatigue.

As someone who favors hand to hand combat versus shooting guns I agree. I've never shot anybody but I can tell you it takes a lot more skill and training to choke someone out or nail them on the head with a stick. As for taking the hot bullet out the bullet wound is potentially much worse than a sword cut. Assault rifle rounds are designed to either spin, tumble or fragment causing far more internal damage than what the entry wound might reveal. I would much rather take sword cut to the arm than an M16 round. While medicine is much better the wounds and type of wounds are far worse and its been easier to find ways of killing and wounding people than healing them.

As someone whos spared in a variety of martial arts including Kendo I can agree. I would much rather use a sword than push a button. In fact I've tried to get some friends of mine who hunt to allow me to hunt with a sword or spear. :D
