Is this a cleverly disquised "married women think I'm hot" post? Seriously, I would have just done like you did and stayed out of it. But I think that's different than what we're talking about. A better comparison would be if your boss called a meeting and announced that the company would now be reimbursing employees for expenses related to cheating (hotel expenses, condoms, etc.) Would that offend you? It doesn't personally affect you since you're not participating in it. But I think the fact that this IS so in your face is exactly what we have a problem with. You don't have to apologize to me. You made it clear you don't agree with cheating etc, so I don't think anyone here is questioning your morals. And besides - I'm not the moral police. Who do you think I am, Dr Laura? I didn't mean to come off that way at all.
Yeah, 610 has NO RIGHT to be advertising that effin' commercial. Have some scruples, people. Agreed. And so, RocketMan95's plot to get rid of SwoLy-D and all his peers begins... A really bad, but humorous analogy, Mr. 'Tavern. You know my weaknesses. Well done, sir.
Racism toward black people (not directed at you, and not illegal) also happens all over the place without the help of radio ads or websites. Does that mean that you wouldn't be offended by and take issue with a radio advertisement promoting it? If you wouldn't then that's your prerogative, but I can't say I agree with the logic.
I don't think this is comparable with racism. Anyway, I have spoken about it and apologized, see the first post in this thread. No need to go on about my comments.
I realize you have spoken your piece, but I haven't mine, so I'm going to comment... Your original argument was that you ignored the ad because it wasn't illegal and wasn't directed at you, not that it wasn't a big enough moral issue for you to care about. That's what you're implying now when you disregard my comparison to racism. That's all I'm saying.
Are there many blacks asking for racism against them? Are there many Mexicans asking to be eradicated? The answer to both is no. Are there many married people that want to cheat and have avenues to do so? Yes and I have given examples and I know a lot more (both men and women) sad but true.
You've got things mixed up. You're comparing the people who the message of racism would be hurting to the people that the message of infidelity would be benefiting. Are there many people asking for their significant other to cheat on them? No. That's the comparison that should be made.
OK, for a fair comparison I remember many years ago, I believe in the early-mid 90s I heard a radio station in Memphis* (K97 FM) advertise some kind of hair activator gel that "makes nappy hair easy" and discussed the ease of managing 'nappy' hair with the product. I believe the style was called a newvo or S-curl or something. Now some might take offense to that and others might not and I remember the topic being discussed on the station's Sunday morning show, which is political in nature. It offended some but others wanted the product and I remember it well because my sister's friend from Memphis left a big grease spot on passenger seat in her new Celica, much like that scene in Coming to America. LOL! *Anybody that has not been to Memphis or has not heard, it's the capital of trying to keep the jheri curl-esque styles in play, or that is what has been said about it around these parts.
Ha. I heard the exact same commercial and was thinking "What in the **** is wrong with some people these days?". Yeah, things like this service do make you feel a bit jaded towards the fidelity and commitment aspects of dating.
Seeing how "Desperate Housewives" is a #1 show, there is definitely a market for this kind of website.
Since Lil Pun is the lone person in this thread who has made it known that he doesn't really care about the advertisement, I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents. I'm not in Houston, so I can't express an opinion about how I feel about the ad being on a particular radio station. However, as for the ad, in general, I don't really mind it. Cheating is a voluntary act. A person has to make numerous conscious decisions to cheat. If a person wants to, they will find a way to do it. Making money by assisting people in cheating is a little questionable, but in a capitalistic economy, people are going to try to make a dime off the vices of others.
A market for what...? A market for wanting to look like Skeletor? I don't get it... I don't... Spoiler
Same here. I really thought it was becoming too "square" to get this. Good to see ABC speak up. Hopefully the station puts an end to this.
Hey Mr. Brightside, this is random, but I remember you saying in a thread years ago that your were a fan of UK artist, Nitin Sawhney. His new album, London Undersound, just dropped last week -- it's pretty damn good.
I'm curious where the massive letter-writing campaign was when those "what happens in Vegas" ads started running.
