If we can get rid of Mo and get Marshall, that'd be nice Christmas gift.

Marshall isn't doing that great. SAR? Eddie is doing wow..

I don't know if the Nets are interested in SAR but they could use their exceptions for him.

If we could give away any of our three overpaid PFs to the Nets, it would be awesome. Probably too good to be true.

hate to be devil's advocate, but considering salaries and all aspects of on court performance am I the only on who would prefer Scalabrine to Mo if I was Nets GM

The same gm who signed Jefferson to a max contract and let KMart walk because guys who didn't buy the team anyway didn't want him to have a max contract? Not saying this is something that's going to happen, but I certainly wouldn't past the Nets gm to consider this.

the TE we would get from dealing a PF to NJ has much more value than any of our 4's.

    in other words:

    its a good deal.

i like mo. i think he is one of the best 6th men in the league. it would hurt a little to lose him for cap space, but it would give spoon (a much better rebounder/defender) a chance to play.

...and it would move us away from the luxury tax threshold. that means that less would be willing to use the full MLE this summer. or at least "buy" a player using our TE.

    Saner, too.

BTW - Martin was allowed to walk due to 'partner' considerations NOT basketball ones. Thorn ain't knowbuddy's idyut!

Smeg- My general feeling as well. The problem is, the completely lack bodies up front. Seriously, the list of guys over 6-8 on their roster is as follows:
    Brian Scalabrine
    Nenad Krstic
    Jabari Smith
    Jason Collins

Collins is solid, but certainly not a guy you want playing 40 mins a night. Krstic is still developing and getting about 11 mins a game. Scalabrine is decent. Smith is a scrub who is actually on the IR (not sure if it's legit or not).

I'd pay the Nets 3 million to take Mo (almost covers his salary for the rest of the year), and then maybe swap a future first (of ours) for a future second of theirs. Or throw out the picks, and take Mercer for them. They get another big man, and replenish a draft pick. We get some breathing room to manipulate other deals now and in the future. You're certainly not going to get them to give up talent (Planinic) and take on Mo's deal.

the nets are certainly weird, i would rather have paid Martin than take on Vince, my guess is New Jersey is just a short term stop for VC

nevertheless if i was Nets GM there would be now way i would want a part of Mo...... but you are right CK... they certainly do some weird things

my understanding of the nets is that they never meant to start "rebuilding".

i remember reading something about the nets missing the window to match the offer to k-mart, as unbelievable as that sounds. they actually wanted to keep him. then they traded kittles for nothing, and people said that kidd and zo were the only big contracts left to get rid of.

the truth was they got a $9.8M TE out of that deal and then signed eric williams for about 25% of what kittles was making to produce just as mutch.

the nets go and make a deal for vince. now they have a very good team, sans front court players.

    kidd-planinic
    vince-mercer
    RJ-buford

scalabrine and collins are nice backups. if this team and a low post scorer just to help a little with the half court game (we know about NJ's half court futility) they would not only be back in the playoff hunt, but in the east, they could make it out of the first or even second round.

I would mis MoT but would be very willing to trade him for the exception just so we could get some cap flexibility.

I still think the Rockets should go very hard at Chandler.

    From today's New York Post:

The Nets, who will activate 6-11 Jabari Smith today, are actively seeking a big body.

"We'd like to add a piece right now," GM Ed Stefanski said. "We have to research and explore for a big man but there's no name awaiting us."

The Nets will ask about Karl Malone, as they did last summer. Numerous names have been tossed about. Some are longshots, such as free agent Jerome Moiso; some are virtually impossible to get, such as Washington's Kwame Brown; some hold little appeal for the Nets, such as Houston's Maurice Taylor. Toronto's Donyell Marshall is a name the Nets will explore even though he's a free agent this summer.

I hope MoT gets traded to the Nets..

It would do wonders for his career playing aside someone like Jkidd.

In the East MoT could someday become an All Star PF .. seriously looking the crap of PF's from the East I couldnt decide on who to vote in.

We move his contract MoT has the chance to become a starter and maybe a star in NJ playing w/ Kidd.

He might not be much of a rebounder but the guy can score (not this year) but usually. =P

I hope we can move Spoon w/ MoT unloading 2 contracts (using up both their exceptions)

I think Taylor on the Nets would be a good addition for them. His style of game would be well suited for their offense. I think he would benefit greatly from the Nets wide open offensive attack versus the slow down stifiling game here in Houston.

The only way though I see the Nets taking on Taylor for their Trade Exception is if we give something to them for taking him off our hands. This would be similar to the Utah taking on Glen Rice contract. I wouldnt want to give up a 1st though just to unload Taylor.

IMO IF Nets dealt for a Rox '4' it would be Howard, a more NY-kinda guy. A better fit, and more tradable at some point forward than the other, higher priced four-ward.

Mo T goes to the Nets he will get 35 mins (and 15 shots) a night

he will play well against the Chris Boshs and Kenny Thomas's

he will be a good PF during the regular season - scoring 15-18 a night

... he will still only get 4-5 rebounds per game
