When I was in lockdown I wasnt allowed to leave the house for 2 months without government permission.
There were drones harassing joggers at parks and policemen giving fines left and right.
Easter and two public holidays were ruined.

Yes it was bad and a lot of people got mental issues.
But now it is back to normal and even sports leagues have resumed.

Its a shame because Houston had all the best conditions to be lightly hit.
People dont use public transportation and had 6 months to learn from the mistakes of others.
But people talk about mental issues and freedom for not being able to go to a restaurant and having to wear a mask? After being able to spend most of the year like normal?

Imagine being inside the whole time in texas and this still happens?

People did pretty good staying in 2nd half of march, april, may

There are people who fought it most of the way but it got to the point where those people were out and about but with no one to talk to. Literally no one to play with! So they couldn't really spread it at that time. Trust me they were trying to. Its the 'whats the big deal crowd'
Well whats the big deal? I think we were able to definitively show that the virus may be many things but it is proving yet again that it is very very contagious. From the beginning to even now I don't believe it was registering with people here how contagious it is. Unfortunately it might take it going through all the non believers and this new rise to catch them up and re realize. They are stubborn and fighting it. It sucks to be wrong more than wear a mask.

I would enjoy your time now but I would let this be a warning to you that a few weeks is all it takes.

There has been a large contingent of people including some here on this bbs that have continued to minimize and downplay.. and with the way cases were going and the timing of the lockdown and it hitting seattle/ new york first..there was best conditions to be lightly hit ..as you say. The lockdown and being light enabled the republican to really gain traction on the idea that it wasnt so bad and as usual the 'libtards' were dumb nerds with their face masks. Lull to sleep.

The behavior was taught and encouraged ..we were blowing through benchmarks of return and for a second there it seemed like it was in the clear. Repugs are pretty good at convincing themselves I even started to think about a trip or something. Still to this day since before mid march I have not eaten in a restaurant.

People being defiant..still no mask talk from trump or wear...it got to point where it was a huge republican party party. You saw videos from Ozarks and memorial party galore. Since memorial day the bug chaser republicans have really been doing their part. They are the ones getting it.

I admit even myself stayed in but wondered if we hadn't been a bit harsh. Still i stayed in but it was pretty clear after memorial day if this virus had any fight or anything in it the cases would spike and we would see what we are seeing.

Im not convinced even now the non mask bug chasers around her can face the ownage of putting on a mask.. so repug party is becoming the covid positive party.

Literally your life expectancy against this virus can be charted against your voting party. If Im running those table shapiro likes to go on about I would add a column for party affiliation since that alone takes 10 years.
None of it is suprising and when you meet the 'no big deal' people you can tell them about us and then tell them to fu*ck off.
It is going to take a concerted face mask , take it serious like you should and potential lockdown again or I suppose more and more get it and we go with no testing and the republican platform of give up. Take that rug and sweep 125k under it.. try not to notice the sick lottery taking place.. toe tags everywhere

I try to talk nice on here, but the below is not targeted at anyone on here so I feel ok saying it... It's just a reaction to a line of thinking I have come across multiple times.

I just gotta say, if you heard the phrase "flatten the curve" in March and thought it meant "flatten the curve and then immediately go back to normal or mostly-normal," then you are a ****ing idiot. "Flatten the curve" was a step 1.

Yes, the messaging could have been better. But ****, man. How could you be so stupid? SMGDFH.

would you say that to the 60,000 people who attended the crowded George Floyd protests in Houston? It was shocking how quickly people seemed to forget about the coronavirus during that week. The news barely mentioned it.

Not defending them, but it took me to actually be affected by IKE in 2008 to take them seriously. I think if you go back to to that never ending hurricane thread you'll find a post of mine that would sound very Trumpy in today's world, "these hurricanes are a creation of the western media" 10 days without electricity, caved in fence and roof made me realize maybe I shouldn't make light of the hurricanes.

If those 60k people were saying, "the curve is flattened therefore I can go back to my pre-covid everyday life" then yes. I would say that they were stupid to think that.

But would those years be “quality” years?

If we just stopped issuing death certificates people wouldn't die.

If you changed the year of death from 2020 to 2010, then ... Obama!!! Simple really.

Question - as long as the vulnerable are protected, could it be a good thing that the younger folks get this without symptoms (which is making up a large share of the increase in cases)? Closer to herd immunity. Vaccine still feels a ways off.

it would be awesome, and you know it

    what you don't know is

there is no such thing as vulnerable are protected, unless you want year round lock down for 50% of the population

there is not such thing as herd immunity without vulnerable being infected

there may never be herd immunity with this virus

Can Grandma stand her ground and shoot the young, stupid and perhaps infected before they get too close?

Coronavirus common cold does not have a vaccine and herd immunity is not possible. These are just facts, so you ignore them if they do not fit your narrative.
