On the economy... the real one... a blockbuster study said everything has mostly failed. The 500B PPP failed. The stimulus check failed. 1T failed. Re-opening is failing. Why - cause we have a virus issue and until we solve that or contain it... fail.

    https://www.npr.org/sections/money/...why-reopening-isnt-enough-to-save-the-economy

"The fundamental reason that people seem to be spending less is not because of state-imposed restrictions," Chetty said. "It's because high-income folks are able to work remotely, are choosing to self-isolate and are being cautious given health concerns. And unless you fundamentally address that concern, I think there's limited capacity to restart the economy."

    ...

Chetty and his team conclude that the traditional tools of economic policy — tax cuts and spending increases to boost demand — won't save the army of the unemployed. Instead, they say we need public health efforts to restore safety and convince consumers that it's OK to start going out again. Until then, they argue, we need to extend unemployment benefits and provide assistance to help low-income workers who will continue to struggle in the pandemic economy.

I’m glad he said this, but anyone with a functioning brain and any critical thinking skills should have already come to the same conclusion. Also, it’s not just affluent people that are staying in over public health concerns, it’s poor and middle class people and families, too.

you didn’t mention all the BLM and antifa protestors who ignored social distancing when they were looting and rioting. I wonder why? You’re biased.

meanwhile, Texas’ deaths are a small fraction of NY and other liberal run states.

Look at the data, not the emotional partisans like Deckard.

So BLM is the governor of Texas who has utterly failed to lead and require face coverings? Keep running from the real issues. Or man up and address them.

Texas has some of the lowest per capita death rates in the country.

Yesh, I seriously don’t know why people are worried about hospital capacity, ICU cases, intubation. Abbott is really an idiot for saying people should stay home. What a coward, bowing to the liberals and getting duped by fake news. It’s all about the deaths. You’re right. Everyone else is wrong.

My god you’re a moron repeatingthe same stupid trope.

You’re putting words in my mouth because you can’t refute the data I present.

Thats the clear inference from your mindless harping on deaths. weren’t you the dude who got a degree from Rice? How does a Rice grad become this stupid?

You pointing out that deaths are low means what? From what I can glean, you care about minimizing the crap job that Abbott and trump have done. You care about absolving trump of responsibility for leading massive numbers of people to not wear masks, for politicizing masks, for leading hoards of people to ignore science, Irresponsibly making the country dumber.

You take the position that we shouldn’t close the economy, right? Are you against government mandating face coverings? Mandating businesses require face coverings? Or do we go Sweden and screw it, just let people exercise free will and whatever happens happens.

as far as I can tell, all you stand for is pro trump and pro republican, own the Dems. You don’t actually give a rats ass about what’s good for people or the country. You’re much more obsessed with making sure Trump and abbot are not blamed. If you gave a crap about covid handling rather than minimizing blame on Abbott and trump, you’d not mindlessly hard on deaths and address the multitude of other issues that matter.

address any or all of this, as you see fit. Or just repeat your idiotic trope about deaths.

this is the kind of thinking that is required to address the crisis, and exactly the kind of thinking that Trump and trump followers are utterly incapable of. Trump spends his time ignoring facts, burning his head in the sand, wanting short term easy fixes, preoccupied about blame, looking for th easy way out when there isn’t one.

It is hard to screw up this badly. I’ve said this before and it bears repeating — the country has a rich history of rallying around a president in times of crisis. All trump had to do was to follow the experts: tell people to wear masks, shut it down long enough on a regional basis to quelch covid, not reopen prematurely. Trump even had the luxury of having hoards of people who will follow him mindlessly.

What a colossal choke job. Even bush junior could have handled this.

Well today's deaths count of 863 is greater than last Tuesday's 849. I hope this is not going to be an inflection point of the decreasing deaths.

I still find it hilarious that you single out Abbott, when you look at the factual data.

    Deaths/per million residents:
    New York: 1,610
    New Jersey: 1,473
    Connecticut: 1,200
    Massachusetts: 1,145
    Michigan: 612
    Florida: 152
    Texas: 77

Yet you continue to do your broken record complaining about Abbott. It's like you choose to ignore the factual data, and instead have your head in the sand.

for emphasis, if daily covid19 growth in TMC Med continues

Base ICU capacity exceed in ~4 days (6/27)
Surge ICU capacity exceed in ~14 days (7/7)

    :(

My god this is a terrible effort. I live in Texas you imbecile. That’s why abbott is a topic. I’m running out of synonyms for stupid.

But hey, Abbott actually wore a face covering in public today. I wonder if he is going to be excommunicated by Trumpey.

So go on record here - You support government mandating individuals wearing face coverings? Or is that too Democrat/sciencey for you? Or is that too much an infringement on the constitutional right to not wear a face covering.

Can you even do a basic level of investigation before you post this? Delaware restated their death count today, amassing 69 deaths (versus typical low to mid single digits/day) - Delaware's number today was a build up over months, so not truly reflective of the day's total.

I wear a facemask in public. Government mandate? Sure, that wouldn't bother me.

And you don't understand science, so don't lecture me on it. Your version of science is "take a position, never waver from it, never consider new information, and try to shame others who consider new facts". That's not science.
