I looked and couldnt find one about Texas. Found some about the nation as a whole but couldnt find one specifically about Texas that would make think that they would be in the top 3. If all states are underestimating then I wouldnt imagine TX leapfrogging into the top 5.

For one, can look up posts about R99 cause of death (undefined). Can even find those stats by state. As a country we are WAY over the norm this year.

The combined sales for three days after the announcement represented a 200% increase vs the same date range in May 4 – May 6, 2019 - when folks traveled without fear of the novel coronavirus, Cruise Planners said.

Regardless, nothing is certain. Booking now poses risk, simply because nobody knows what the situation will be in the next few months. If it is still bad, you won't get your money back if you cancel. If the cruise has to cancel, expect 90 days after that waiting on a refund. If the cruise does sail, then it's still a big risk, hanging out among thousands on a virus spreading pleasure boat.

You're making an unsubstantiated claim. Period. There is nothing so far in Texas that says reopening is having an adverse reaction

I came in this thread to see if I may be missing soit seems things are going well so far

You and the 'dome are either going to need to send a FOIA to the appropriate state agency (with the proper question) or wait for the Texas Tribune to do it.

Cases continue to increase each day...keep an eye on the spike in numbers now that we re-opened...it's coming...

Texas reports largest daily increases in cases and deaths
[5:30 p.m.] Texas reported 1,448 more cases of the new coronavirus Thursday, an increase of about 3% over the previous day, bringing the total number of known cases to 43,851.

The state has also reported 58 additional deaths, bringing the statewide total to 1,216 — an increase of about 5% from Wednesday. Both of these are largest daily increases the state has reported. But they also come as testing has increased across the state.

No new counties reported their first cases Thursday; over 85% of the state’s 254 counties have reported at least one case.

Harris County has reported the most cases, 8,621, followed by Dallas County, which has reported 6,602 cases. See maps of the latest case numbers for each county and case rates per 1,000 residents. Harris County also reported five additional deaths, bringing its total to 188 deaths, more than any other county.

    Two counter-points:

    1. Whenever states open, whether today or 2 months from now, there will be an increase in cases. If there wasn't, that would mean stay-at-home was having no effect.

    2. We've also dramatically ramped up testing during this time, so we should be seeing more cases whether we re-open or not.

All the data can, unfortunately, be twisted however people want to see it. I thought this chart was interesting:

Look at CA and VA - two states that locked down early and hard. And GA and FL, two states that handled this terribly. Basically, there are a ton of factors beyond stay-at-home that are driving this virus (and our ability to track it), and we really don't know what they are.

That is very interesting that FL and GA are leveling or even dropping. There might actually be something to humidity being a factor. Very disappointing though in MN. Gov. Walz here has admitted that social distancing has been very poor lately in MN.

From yesterday, as Major pointed out, some of the uptick may be due to increased testing...go to the sources to see full article...

Texas reports highest one-day COVID-19 test totals
    Texas Tribune

Texas reported that it conducted 49,259 tests Wednesday, the highest one-day total reported since the pandemic began. According to Texas DSHS, the department received a large batch of tests results from laboratories. The state also reported 1,355 new cases Wednesday— the second-highest increase since the state began reporting coronavirus case counts. The highest daily total was 1,441 new cases April 10.

Houston area seeing slight uptick in number of coronavirus cases, but what does it mean?
    KPRC-TV Houston

Over the last seven days, data showed an uptick in the daily number of positive COVID-19 cases reported in Harris County. However, infectious disease experts say daily totals can be misleading and a better barometer is the positivity rate. This rate gives the daily percentage of those testing positive for COVID-19. The positivity rate in Texas began dropping from a high of 15% on April 12, but has since plateaued between 5% and 7%.

COVID-19 hospitalization numbers stay steady in Austin area, but doctors warn of potential surge
    KXAN-TV - Austin

As of Wednesday, 88 coronavirus patients were hospitalized in the Austin-Round Rock area. For the last several days, the number of hospitalizations remained steady in the 80’s. Ascension Seton Medical Center says we have enough beds and ventilators even with hospitals resuming elective surgeries. On May 1, Gov. Abbott lowered the amount of space hospitals had to reserve for coronavirus patients from 25 to 15 percent.

My next door neighbor is a doctor in hospital administration for a large hospital in the Houston area...he told me yesterday that the entire system he works within is seeing a significant uptick in COVID patients.

Weird, given that many GOP governors have enacted the same policies. Of course, you don't actually care about that.

Not Governor Abbott. He is the one I particularly care about.

As far as other Republican governors taking the same level of draconian control as Governor Whitmer, I do not know of any who have done that.

Does that mean I'll stop hearing anecdotal accounts about "empty hospitals" or will the deep left send actors to fill up space?

Is this because more people are sick and going to the hospital or is this a result of increased testing that is catching folks who weren’t being hospitalized/tested previously.

if it includes asymptomatic or light cases, the raw number doesn’t say much.

Some of those folks may be doing as well or better now with state unemployment (crappy) and the Federal supplement (600/week). A grand a week is a pretty good move up for a significant amount of people.
