JB < RA << MW Barnes is much better than Kapono at everything but shooting, and Barnes isn't a bad shooter. But we have no chance at Barnes withoug our MLE less than half. GS would have zero motivation to trade him to us and we have no leverage. If we were going for Barnes we basically couldn't have gone for Scola. Hopefully we were right. I agree about the post. But I would add I am really interested in PJ Brown for the rest of the MLE. Donyelll Marshall for expiring contracts and bottom roation players would be nice too. I would like to add another vet PF to help out with Scola's learning pains and with Hayes limitations.
We should offer Barnes the $2.3 million we have left of the MLE and see if he bites, with a "wink-wink" of a nice future payoff. The Rocks have a history of making good on those promises.
Well isnt Barnes a free agent? If he walked, they would get nothing, and if they facilitated a sign/trade, they could get some cap relief (sura), or a 2nd rounder. That would be their motivation. Im not THAT high on Barnes that I would throw everything I could on him, I was merely posting it as a possibility since he isnt receiving many other offers.
Regarding Barnes I have a couple of guesses. 1) everyone knows he will return to GS and it is kinda leaked they have told him to find the best deal and we will beat it/match it. Team have decided not to waste their time. 2) if teams start really believing he is on his way out of GS some will get aggressive with most or all of the MLE. There are still teams with MLEs, Barnes does a lot of things well and and he could help most anyone given his versitility (I don't buy for a second he could only contribute for GS--his skills and effort should translate to any system).
