Same here. Somewhere out there rday is probably thinking to himself... BRILLIANT!! Some of these cluthfan members are as smart as me!!
I disagree. I remember Yao once said he didn't care much about money since his first year's salary here is already enough for his whole life. Also I believe Yao can easily become (or already is) a millionaire (in Chinese currency) in China, based on what he said in his book ( chinese link ). I believe he came here because he wants to be the best basketball player he can be. I am sure he also wants to make tons of money, but I just don't think that is the number one reason for him. And contrary to popular belief, there is lots and lots of pennies to make in China.
It would be stupid economics for Houston to trade away a guy with a billion fans. After all, the jersey's look half chinese anyway. With Mutombo's play of late though, one has to wonder how great Yao has to be for this team to win a championship. I'm thinking if Yao plays decently, we'll be fine. But superstar he is not.
I don't like this kind of idea but it's interesting to see what will happen. This is a business world. Yao realized that very early in his NBA career when his friends went away one by one. We'll see.
You know what I think you're right, all these idiots who joined up last month and this month have been filling the BBS with crap that we went through 2 or 3 years ago. First the moronic "Yao is God" posters come in through here, and of course, they're immediately followed by the equally moronic "Yao is the worst basketball player." I still say a questionnaire should be administered before allowing anyone to join. First question should be "Are you a Numbnut"
I blame Clutch. Since the google ads, he's opened up the board for anybody to view (except during high traffic events). Before, if you weren't registered, you might not know if the board was worth contributing to in order to gain access. Now that people can see that the board kicks ass and that it has one of the strongest followings on the internet, you'll have more people ponying up the cash to join. And some of those people feel that because they kicked in a contribution, that it gives them free rein to post whatever innane crap that they want to. Just kidding Clutch. I don't really blame you. Please don't ban me.
Well, if so, it got lost on me, he should have used one of the icons to make that clear. It is slightly a challenge to figure out what people 'really mean' through computer communication. So my bad
Not as a basketball player, there ain't. Dude, did you see what Yao was wearing during draft day when the Rockets picked him up? He looked malnutritioned for god's sake! So even if he made all the money in the world he needed by playing only one year in the states, that does not contradict what I said about him being a rational person making a rational decision to go and play where the money is. Oh, and believe me, although he was raised in a socialist country, I am pretty sure Yao gives a dang about money, and just like any other person would love to add up some more if he could, which he will do in a couple of years cashing in on that nice contract he will get. I remember reading something where he said that he was looking forward to his "big pay day". Yao is just like anyone else who plays in the NBA in this country, who came from poor families and dreamed of making it big. The difference is those people tend to concentrate on the well-being of a small group of people and carry only their hopes and aspirations. Yao has much, much more riding on his journey in the NBA. Believe me man, it is all about the money, always is, always will be. Nothing is wrong with that, and even the Chinese government would NOT have sent Yao here to the states if they weren't getting a good share of what he makes. Bottomline, the NBA was were the money is, and Yao's endorsements would not have been there if he wasn't an icon playing an "American game" (or so the story goes). I think it is an obvious point.
Please God let Yao score 25 pts and get 15 boards tomorrow vs. the Spurs so the madness will end.....
All Yao Ming needs is an offseason with no basketball commitments. Dude has played bball nonstop! I would love to see how much Yao improves with an offseason in America to work out. I think right now, the Rockets are the best situation for Yao Ming. The Rockets have surrounded him with players that best complement him. For all the YOFs, where else would you rather him play? I really believe Yao Ming is really enjoying his time in Houston and really enjoying this run by the Rockets.
Sometimes when you have high expectations, you have to fail, fall, and drop under the radar for a bit. Yao clearly is being affected by the pressure - it's hurting his game. You see it everytime he misses a shot and he looks mad at himself. That's not a healthy thing. Great players muck up, they don't hit themselves on the side of the head, they get angry at the other team. They play harder, not softer. Yao has the talent, but his mental game is what's suffering. He needs to figure out what he really wants...
I'm not disagreeing with this. Players who don;t muck up when they miss a shot has been great for this franchise, Mad Max, Hakeem, John Starks...the list goes on
I feel that Yao Ming has turned into the step child of a couple of mean parents and a bunch of nasty siblings,TMac is their real son, so when the step son ACCIDENTAlly did something to the real son, he needs to be punished - send away- but not for free, they want to be paid handsomely for doing so, basically, they want to sell him for big money. I wonder, if the situation reversed, ie., what if TMac accidentally hurt Yao, would the mean parents and siblings cheer him on? I also wonder if Yao feels the same way after reading this stupid post, would he still want to be here?
