Melos gonna take the cash. He doesn't strike me as a guy willing to sacrifice for a title

Melo has been sold by the idea that come 2015 NY, can chase big time free agents with all the cap space they will have. The allure of Phil Jackson plus NYC should convince the free agents. That plus the extra year makes it a good sell in his mind.

OTOH, perhaps Melo is not convinced that Rockets will win next season with him esp. with a clueless, incompetent bottom 3 head coach in McHale.

He is saying to himself "Ok, it's just one more season of mediocrity in NY and then we will be right in the mix."

I think people just over react to reports by "sources". If Woj reported that sources say Carmelo is signing an extension with NY, then it's over.

Too much of the report sounds like speculation and something from that came from a Knick insider, and the fact that the article concludes with Carmelo saying he is going to take the weekend to decide, means he hasn't decided yet.

Are you serious... It's PR straight from Melo's camp.

Of course he's not coming. Melo is the type of guy that will shake his ass in front of a couple of teams so they can make it rain and make him feel a little bit more special, only to return to an abusive pimp. The guy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and hardly the guy that would ever lead a championship team.

i haven't seen a source saying Houston is the favorite yet. Last year with DH, you had many people saying different things, but you also had a lot of sources saying Htown was the favorite. I'm not feeling it this time.

It's hysterical seeing some of you chastise Melo and judge him based your own presumptions when he hasn't even made a decision yet. Of course your tune changes real quick if he ends up a Rocket.

At this point Chicago isn't even the favorite anymore. After that Woj article, Melo going back to New York is almost guaranteed IMO.

It is hysterical how people's opinion of an issue changes as the circumstances surrounding the issue change. Aren't people just supposed to make an ignorant assumption and stick to it no matter what?

I haven't changed my tune one bit. This team needs to focus on building a solid supporting cast rather than star-gazing and lifting their skirts up for ever big name they hear about. Even if they do sign Melo they'll march into the playoffs next year with a crappy bench and a 2nd round exit at best.

he was DRAFTED by Denver. They love New York. How is that laughable? You must be miserable.

Who is going to be a free agent next year that will make them contenders? LaMarcus Aldridge? Marc Gasol? I suspect both will resign with their current teams. DeAndre Jordan? Tyson Chandler? Brook Lopez? Paul Milsap? Goran Dragic? Danny Green? Rudy Gay? Roy Hibbert? Monta Ellis?

Kevin Love and Rajon Rondo could be difference makers, but I suspect both get traded before next season, and the Knicks don't have anything to really offer.

Let's assume that none of the Spurs group of Parker, Ginobili or Duncan is leaving.

Just having cap space and Phil (who is a great coach, nobody knows what kind of GM he is) doesn't guarantee anything. Being in NY certainly hasn't made the Knicks contenders since the Patrick Ewing days.

Nope it quotes "league sources", meaning most likely the Knicks camp.

Unfair criticism. Most guys just aren't going to take less money during their peak earning years. And he gets the opportunity to stay in NY.

LeBron teams up with 2 other allstars and he gets criticized. Anthony may stay with his team as they rebuild and he gets criticized.

Carmelo can either contend for a title in 2015 and 16 guaranteed, or write off next year and hope to get lucky in NY.

new orleans will have many more victories than the knicks with melo.

but melo looks cool scoring like william smith at bel-air prep, so there is that.

Sounds like Melo isn't about winning after all. Not shocking.
