Gives Melo an out. He can take the money without making it look like it's all about the money.

Pau ain't going to NY. Not like that he would make a difference.

Melo seems to be content with no titles.

I am starting to not want Melo anymore. Its like that girl you deeply wanna be with, but she is still entertaining her ex and looking for every reason to be with her. Ill pass. Give me Love.

Yup and he got the attention he craves. I don't blame the Rockets or Bulls for trying to get him. However, ultimately winning isn't that important to him.

He averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds a game last season. Only problem is that he did it in 60 games.

    Calderon
    Smith/Hardaway
    Melo
    Gasol
    Dalembert
If Melo thinks that's starting line up will get it done them he deserves that team. Melo's priority isn't winning then. Obviously that team is so so so much better than possibly Beverly/Harden/Parsons/Melo/Howard. I know the East is weak but that Knicks starting lineup is even weaker than the Bulls lineup without Rose.

And that is exactly why, it doesn't hurt to lose him.

Not necessarily. It isn't great news, but not necessarily a sign that he is 100% going back to NY.

Could be a situation where he wants to stay, but only if the team has a good enough supporting cast in his mind. So what if NY fails to land Gasol and strikes out on other significant free agents? Will Melo leave then?

I remember that in 2010 Lebron was reported to have tried to talk Bosh into joining him in Cleveland. Bosh refused. Lebron then ended up leaving.

Melo prefers NY thats always been known - if they can get Gasol for 3 million - Melo goes back to the Knicks

    why?
of course Gasol isnt going to shift any power at this stage of his career - the Knicks may make the playoffs but they aren't going to win rings next season.

but the season after? When they have more cap room - amare/bargs off the books

being able to get a player like gasol to sign for super cheap would at least indicate to Carmelo that the Knicks - namely Phil is able to recruit talent to NY and play around him - quite possibly get talent on the cheap to really build a team.

Carmelo said he is looking at the big picture - he wants to win but if he feels NY can win within the next 4-5 years he will stay there - if they cant then he leaves - its pretty simple.

in carmelo's head if Phil Jackson, Derek Fisher and a spainard teammate of Calderon cant get Gasol to come play in NY then what sort of chance will they have against other FAs who they dont have deep ties with? which means they may not be able to get it done in the future to get talent to NY

the only thing i say in his case...he's 30. This is probably his last huge contract. He needs to turn over every stone he can. Morey just needs to have his backup plans ready.

Gasol is gonna be 34 years old in a week. He's old. Chicago , houston, Dallas are all better options. I guess he's all about the money and doesn't want to win.

Pau indicates that Marc will come next season. That's a very good team.
