    Dallas signing Dirk not only means they are out of the race, but that Melo informed them that they are out of the race. Hopefully this means we are getting close to a decision!

    Why? No one signs till July 10. Can't Mavs still in theory announce this, sign Melo with all their free cap space (after whatever cap room Dirk's salary takes up in the offseason anyways), then come around and sign Dirk over the cap to this new purported deal?

    That's a large cap hold. Sorry, but then doesn't that mean Mavs were ALWAYS out of the running? I'm just confused as to why the news that a verbal agreement (with amount) with Dirk being achieved changes anything at all.
