The Jay Z song is about having to lose some people in order to achieve success; I suppose that this is referring to losing Lin and getting a FA (whether it be Carmelo or not).

Then stop trying. He doesn't owe you anything, and the rest of us appreciate his input.

Dont know if its been posted

The Rockets are putting on a full court press to land superstar free agent Carmelo Anthony. Along with an image of him in a Rockets uniform displayed at the entrance to Toyota Center and meetings with Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler, stars James Harden and Dwight Howard, and coach Kevin McHale, the Rockets put their best foot forward by treating Anthony to lunch at one of Houston's most distinctive restaurants on Thursday.

The group dined at Américas in River Oaks before Anthony headed on to a meeting in Dallas. Sure, they could have stayed downtown and eaten at a chain steakhouse, but why not go with a Houston original operated by a family with a 25-year history of operating restaurants in Houston?

Anthony must have liked his meal. He exited the restaurant with a toothpick in his mouth like a satisfied diner.

An Américas representative tells CultureMap that a group of 10 to 12, which included owner Leslie Alexander, Rockets CEO Tad Brown, general manager Darryl Morey, executive VP of basketball operations Gersson Rosas and assistant coach Greg Buckner, dined in the restaurant's posh private room partitioned off by the retractable red felt wall next to the bar, where they were attended to by four servers who kept the group fed and happy (frequent laughter was heard from the room).

After the executives left, Anthony and Howard stayed and talked for a bit before going their separate ways.

On the menu? A veritable feast from chef David Cordua's recently revamped menu of specialties from Central and South America. A representative says they ordered smoked corn crab fingers, angel wings, lobster corn dogs and empanadas to start. Entrees included the Cordúas’ signature Churrasco steak, sea bass carnitas (current special on the menu), achiote-seared ahi tuna, pollo encamisado, and, just for fun, a few lobster tails. Instead of the restaurant's celebrated tres leches, they kept dessert simple with alfajores (miniature dulce de leche cookie sandwiches).

Cordua tells CultureMap that he didn't try to get a picture with the group, but plenty of diners did.

"It made for an exciting afternoon, though," Cordua observed.

Anthony must have liked his meal. He exited the restaurant with a toothpick in his mouth like a satisfied diner.

FACT: Melo does not WANT to leave NYC.

This whole free agency frenzy with him and Lebron is more about putting pressure on their teams to make moves to improve their team and give them Max $ than it is about the other teams.

Will Melo go somewhere else.... It's a possibility, but NOBODY will be in the driver seat until Melo knows exactly what the situation will be in NY and the same with Lebron in Miami.

If any "source" tries to say that Melo is leaning one way or another I'm calling BS on that. He's always been leaning on NY, but is forced to explore his options. The sad fact for Hou and Chi fans is that our teams are his secondary destination abc always have been.

the first part is about him leaving the Knicks.
-New Yorkers are going to be mad when he leaves("***** saying they made hov"). Roger Clemens got a lot of hate when he came to the Astros.
-The fame of being new york and his friends, is like a drug("worst drug known to man". --And he wishes he would have stayed in "Food and Beverage" like Sam Rothstein in the movie 'Casino'. In that movie it was all going well for Sam until he started using his fame to make tv shows, ect. Could that be the fame of being in new york vs. a more low key place like Houston/Chicago?

the second part is Jay Z talking about Beyonce, i would guess? I guess this can be interpreted to Melo having to leave behind LaLa in new york while he works else where?

the third part about his nephew dieing, i dont know how its related to Melo. Any ideas?

I basically agree with you here. But testing the waters is not going to enable NY to do what cant be done. And that is put together a finals contending team in 2014/15.

Well that may be true, Melo's desire to stay in New York does not equate with his desire to win NOW. Unlike Lebron with Miami, New York is in a tough position to go in win now mode because of their cap hell.

Weighing everything out, Houston just seems like the logical place to place to go.

No he can decide whenever he want and sign after the 10th but he said that he will decide the second week of July.

Seems like what his decision really is is whether he values his on the court life or his off the court life more.

I think Lebron plays a factor here, if he decides to leave Miami, Houston is his best landing spot and no one would care about what Melo wanted at that point.

Well the Rockets' off-season will be pretty much finished by the 13th or 14th so he doesn't have much more time than that if he wants to go to the Rockets

Exactly.. and there is nothing wrong with placing a high value off the court as well. I personally would make some concessions in my life to live in Austin vs. Dallas.... that's for sure.

We will see here soon enough if the lip service is really 100% true or not in the next few days. Only Him, his wife, and maybe his agency truly know how much of the decision is based on what.

However, we do know for a fact that he wants to be in NYC. What we dont know for certain is how he weighs his livelihood vs. winning.

If winning is truly the one and only deciding factor, its between Hou & Chi & you'd have to think that the extra 6 to 8 million he'd make in Hou (larger contract & lower expenses) would push them over the edge.... but again.... we aren't talking about logic with you and I here. Its up to Melo, his family, and his agent, and they are going to do whats right for them... which might very well be to stay in NY and gamble that Phil can rebuild the team around him fast.
