It's kind of hard to name an Eastern Conference team, unless we met one several times in the Finals. And we haven't.

Supersonics are no more, and as heated as the rivalry was, it wasn't so evil. Other than George Karl's illegal D, it was a team full of Rocket killers.

Spurs were a much bigger rival when we tangled in post-season. That was a long time ago...the rivalry is mostly cordial.

    Here's where it gets heavy:
In terms of post season match ups, Lakers have the longest history. By far. It's really amazing when you think that Rudy T coached there. But imagine if he coached the Mavs or Jazz. It would suddenly be a much bigger issue. The kind we would still be lamenting.

Jazz have nasty fans, Karl Malone, and bad officiating on their side in some really infuriating series in the 90's that cost the Rockets trips to the Finals. Now? Not so much rivalry. True, we met them in the playoffs and got beat not so long ago, but as much as I hate the Jazz, we just got outplayed.

Which leaves...the Dallas Mavericks, who I voted for. I don't hate Dirk Nowitski. He's a better citizen than many franchise players, and he's a unique talent. Many of his surrounding cast are a bit douchy, but I don't delude myself.

Dallas has the league's most irritating owner, the most irritating loud-mouthed fans, and well...there's that series. You know. Finley out of bounds.

But the truth is...I'm a Houston sports fan and I just hate Dallas. It can't be helped. I haven't followed the NFL since the Oilers were playing in the Astrodome, and yet...any mention of the Cowboys or Jerry Jones today makes my skin crawl. Fact is, Dallas is full of faux alpha males like Jerry Jones and Mark Cuban. They make perfect figureheads for their city, and really...is there anyone in the world easier to hate than the sort of sociopath who really believes that his happiness is more important than anyone else's?

Dallas fans bother me more than LA, Chicago, Boston and New York fans put together. And admit it, if you are from Houston, it's probably true for you too. It's part of our identity. Maybe its something in the water.

Ten years ago, it wasn't true. I would have made an exception for basketball. It took courage to be a Mav's fan. But now, thanks to Mark Cuban, the city got the team they deserved.

    And I hate them.

The Knicks have got to be a new favorite with T-mac over there. I can't believe you didn't list them.

Jazz would be my answer, but the image of Battier covered in blood is still in my head. So, the Lakers.

I repeat what I said in another thread.

Yet, the great Mail-lady delivered an 8 point performance in an elimination game as the underdog Blazers reach the Western Conference Finals. It wasn't even a Sunday.

Utah is my most hated team. Stockton & Malone dishing out, but not able to take it is the main reason. My best memory of a Rox/ Jazz game was when Stockton flopped while setting 1 of those push-off picks on Barkley & Barkley literaly walked all over him on his way into Malone's face.

The Cuban Mavs are a close 2nd simply because of their flopping & their loud mouthed owner.

Maybe because not everyone a player hater...?

Knicks haven't done anything to us but load us with talent in Hill and future draft picks in exchange for our injury prone superstar we refused to play.

Sometimes the Rockets for frustrating the hell out of me. Always seem to be the potential team. Anyway....probably the Jazz. Everyone around the NBA tends to hate Utah...not just the team.

When I was editing a basketball video a few years ago, I saw the funniest d@mn thing. ...It was a double flopped with too notorious floppers, John Stockton (Jazz) and Dennis Rodman (Bulls). It was the 2nd Finals between the two teams. Stockton had the ball being guarded by Rodzilla, out near the three point line. All of sudden, Stockton drives towards the basket and he runs into a Rodman. Stockton goes flying backwards (and losing the ball) violently, while Rodman is lifted (jumping) floor and falls on his backside. And the ball is just sitting their live (because the referee didn't call a foul on either side).

I wont say anything about the rockets because this a rockets board and respect them as a team but saying they are not a dynasty for winning 4 titles in 9 years is beyond stupidity I can break down every year if you want me too to show how great the spurs were probably as not great as they use to be but hey there only a few games from the 2nd seed..thinking robinson is not one of the greatest centers also is also a fairweather statment my friend...if you dont like what spurs fans say then dont listen to the sports radio in san antonio or dont go to the games very easy right?

Why are the Cavs an option? Why would the typical Rockets fan have a problem with Cleveland..?

Really, because I can barely stand to watch them even when the Rockets play them. They get the most favoritism from the officials of any team in the league, IMO.

Always Utah. I will never forget 97. or 07 or even 94's homecourt advantage. They are truly the Rockets rivals and I will forever hate them :)
