not exactly what you're asking for, but you should definitely hit up museum row around town and particularly on Main (lawndale, etc). I know you're interested in plays but I'm betting he'd like that too if you haven't already added that to the itinerary. One of Houston's great treasures- the Museum district.
to save on your wallet: http://houstonmuseumdistrict.org/free-admission-times/ my recommendations (obviously everyone has their own preferences but I find the smaller ones to have an enjoyable flavor): - Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (last time I went an artist had an installation of artwork made out of MRI film that I loved) -The Menil Collection (A Houston landmark) and also has a great outdoor park area next to it if you want to play catch/frisbee/or just walk around and talk -Lawndale isn't bad but right next door to contemporary craft so walking down fannin hitting up those spots is kinda fun - didn't particularly enjoy contemporary arts museum but it might have just been the exhibition. A little planning goes a long way- the museums I listed, along with many others, are in walking distance of one another. I'd recommend checking what exhibitions they have going on and if it intrigues you (or you think your son would like it) then definitely go check it out. The link above also has links to all the museums websites to get an idea. If your son enjoys the arts (which it sounds like he does) then he might love these spots. I wasn't much of an art lover as a kid, but I've grown to really appreciate all the options the city has to offer.
forgot to mention- some of the museums are really small so it won't take long at all to see them. none of them compare to the monstrosity that is MFAH
What "ideas" are you asking about, exactly? Do you want to know about good production companies, want to see good shows, or just want to know what a good Theater Arts around here might be? I was wondering because I didn't get what the question was really asking at first. Wow, you're brave with the pictures, man, but you have good answers for those of us wondering about posting them. Some theaters update or modify the script with the publisher's permission to make it "age appropriate" and attract younger audiences. Best thing, I believe, to determine if this is the case, is to call the theater and see if the director made this change or allowed it. Hicklander, UH-Downtown put a production of A Few Good Men together a few years back, as I recall, and a VERY GOOD ONE, I must say... it's a small black-box theater in there and they made it work.
lulz is a word used by teenagers... I played the sax and was the in plays also when I was 14. Didn't get near as far as he has with the instrument, but I did several plays when growing up. It definitely builds confidence when you're unafraid to go on stage in front of people.
