I understand your rationale behind considering a deal with Golden State but I will still argue that I would much rather take a chance on a low cost player like JR Smith than to try to pull off some complicated three-way deal that would likely involve us taking on bad contracts.

The deal we mentioned briefly for JR Smith was nothing more than a mere draft day swap of picks that included a player. I would say that's much less complex than your suggested inter-conference proposal that involves us getting the best player in the trade. Furthermore, what would be the motivation for the Clippers to move Maggette? Especially considering all they would be receiving was Dunlady in return, who Maggette is light years better than. I don't care who's dad is who, you don't downgrade your team just to create a feel-good-storyline.

I agree with what you said about J-Rich being extremely valuable to his team and being more valuable than some players making max money. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I think he's one of the most underrated players in the league so attempting to move him makes little sense. He has his flaws like any other player, but he's certainly not the problem in GS.

I don't think Dunleavy would be looked at as a downgrade from Maggette to the Clips. Maggette is coming off a questionable injury. The Clips may want to move him because they are notoriously cheap and don't want to take the chance of keeping him around with a chronically bad leg.

Besides that, I think Dunleavy is starting to come into his own and get it, at least offensively. He had a very solid game against the Wolves tonight. He's a great ball handler and 3 point shooter and he's an extremely cerebral player. I haven't like him much up until now but I could see him actually meshing quite well with Yao and TMac on the offensive end. The only problem with him is can he D it up? I think that is the achilles heal that prevents us from being interested in him.

I'm not necessarily talking about a complicated 3 way either. If GS would send MD to the CLips straight up for Maggette, then Pietrus really doesn't have a place for the minutes he should have. He then beomes the logal asset to tag up with a big contract to encourage teams to make a deal.

GS is loaded with talent. They have decisions to make. Do they keep their big contracts and move out all their youngsters because they aren't gonna have the money to keep them when their contracts are up or do they try to move some of their oversized contracts along with a little bit of their young talent in order to sign some of that younger talent to better long term deals than the bloated deals they passed out to Foyle, Murphy, Fisher, and to a lesser degree Dunleavy.

To me, J.R. is a punk that is not a very good shooter and not a very good defender but he does look good dunking the bball.............kinda like Stro. Why would we need/want that?

If the Clippers want a guy like Dunlady they should look no further than a guy they already have: Vladimir Radmanovic. I know he's a free agent but he's probably only going to money in the MLE range as it is. They're winning games in Clipperland, I would think him returning would be strong possiblity.

I don't like Dunlady's game at all. He's soft, slow and unathletic. On top of that he's an absolutely terrible defender. His shooting percentages are also way down.

I see what you are saying now about a straight up deal that would ultimately leave Pietrus as the centerpiece in any deal. But let's back up a minute here. If Maggette is indeed available, why don't we consider taking a run at him? His contract is very similar to Artest's in that you are getting a star-quality performer at a fraction of the price. Maggette is making only $6.7 M this season---not bad for a 20 PPG scorer that can play defense and is a very hard worker/good teammate.

He does have durability issues though. It kind of goes without saying that's the last thing in the world we need. But all things considered, he's such a great value for what you get out of him. On top of that, he's only 26-years-old so this wouldn't be a quick fix kind of deal either. If we played our cards right, he's the kind of player that could be a solid addition to our nucleus for years to come.

Golden State have too much talent no one is safe there , i think we should make a strong effort to obtain Ike Diogu ( even give up our pick for him ) , in the last few weeks he really improved his overall performance for example yesterday he had 21 pts ,8-11 fg , 6 rebounds 1 block in 23 minutes .
Diogu and Swift can be a very good PF Duo , Diogu is young , underrated he will only get better . Murphy is a also a good option but he isn't cheap ...

Our next move should be trying to obtain a deadly shooter and an athletic swingman , we should be able to get at least one from the high second round pick that we got from New York , every draft you're gonna get the undersized shooter that fall to second round like G.Areans,C.Mobley ,S.Stoudemire,J,Kapono ,K.Korver,R.Murray and so on ... we could get some of them but i think we should try our luck and keep the second round pick .

The leauge have 10000 athletic Sf/Sg like J.R Smith , G.Wallace , D.Miles , M.Pietrus J.Smith the hype from their athleticism will cool off during the offseason getting one of them is possible .

I hope CD will be active in the offseason , cause we need improvements for the next season .

You have 2 distinct classes there.

    1. You've got the class of athletes that can't shoot to save their lives. Their offense is all off the break, backdoor lobs, dunks, and layups. These include J.R. Smith, G. Wallace, Desmond Mason, Travis Outlaw, and even J. Smith(tweener 3-4, not a 2).

    2. You've got the class of athletes that have the athletic game as well as some offensive skills out on the floor. This includes D. Miles, M. Pietrus, Corey Maggette, etc.

We DO NOT need class 1. We need guys that can shoot the basketball from 17 feet and out. This is why I do not want J.R. Smith or Childress or any of the guys in class 1. They can't shoot.

Great. I'd do a deal with the Clips straight up as long as it didn't include the big 2. I haven't been able to think of anything on our squad they would want. However, if we hit the lotto, they may be interested in the pick plus some combo of Luther/Stro.

I was thinking of being able to pull a 4 and a 2 from GS with a deal that included our pick as well as Luther and be able to dump Juwan in the process. I don't see the Clips being willing to move Maggette to us for what is on our roster save we give them the pick plus talent. And then we still have a huge hole at the 4.

GS may be enticed into dealing Murphy's deal, if they can get more reasonable contracts and another lottery pick that would yield them somebody like Shelden Williams and along with their pick may get lucky and get a top 3 pick that gives them a quality swingman to replace Pietrus. They tread water talent wise, and shed the big dollar contract. They are set to get in on a deal for a true superstar down the road. 2007 is going to be a big year.

In all fairness, JR has shot 39% from 3-pt range this season and is shooting better from there than anybody on our roster. He's always had nice form with great elevation. 20-years-old on top of that with plenty of room for improvement.

Same with Childress. He doesn't take many 3-pt attempts but when he does he hits them. Same with his field goal attempts---whether he's slashing or shooting the mid-range jumper, the guy can score and put the ball in the basket efficiently.

    Here are his shooting percentages:
    56% from the field
    54% from 3-pt range
    75% FT shooter

Childress' form looks terrible, but he's in the top two or three in adjusted percentage all season.

Is Childress the dude with the herky jerky shot, that takes him an hour and a half to get set and release, that he throws up from his waist? Maybe I'm thinking about the wrong guy. If that is the guy, then those stats are misleading. That shot will not work against playoff caliber teams who have length, and are scrambling in their rotation and getting up on the shooter. If he is shooting those percentages it is because he is throwing up that stuff in ATL and the defense doesn't care because the game is over before it starts most nights and if he is shooting it means that JJ and Harrington aren't. I would NOT entrust the SG position to a player with that kind of form. I really don't think he is even a SG. He's a SF playing out of position. All that said, I like the kid if it's the one I'm thinking of, the kid from Stanford. He's obviously a highly intelligent kid and I think he will have a decent career. I just don't envision him throwing up a 5 or 8 from 3 land on a championship team, without some serious adjustment to his shot.

J.R. stats are kinda surprising actually. I don't think I trust them. But, I will concede, based on those numbers he is a better shooter than I give him credit for. My biggest problem with J.R. is if he cannot get along with a coach like Byron in a low pressure environment like they've been playing in, then how can he possibly make it with Van Gundy and the pressure of contending for a title? Me thinks he is too young, too immature, too selfish, not good defensively and no good in a team concept offensively. Besides that, I can't imagine NO turning loose of him when his value is low. He is the guy they want to grow with Paul. I think the only way they move him is if the situation gets worse over there and he throws up in the media, etc. etc. Then you have to consider what a risk to team chemistry he would be here. There has to be a better deal than a risk on a 20 year old kid who hasn't really proven anything in this league yet.

That's him, you've got the right guy in mind. Although, it's a bit unfair to assume that just because the Hawks are the Hawks that they do only one thing: lose games and get run off the floor everytime they play. They have been surprisingly competitive and rarely lose games by 10 pts or more. They just can't close out games or play at a high enough level down the stretch. In other words, when Childress plays its not garbage time.

Childress does have a very strange shooting motion but as long as its effective I don't think it should matter. Just look at Shawn Marion. He has some of the most awkward form and release on his shot that I ever seen yet its extremely effecient.

Everything you have just mentioned is valid and worth having concern over. I'm not saying getting him would be some kind of sure thing but honestly, what is anymore? We all assumed going into this season Derek Anderson was going to be the athletic SG we've been searching for and that obviously blew up in our faces. In the same regard, Ron Artest was considered damaged goods that was nothing more than a talented team cancer and look what he's doing now in Sacremento. All it took for him was a change of scenery and I really think that's the best thing that could happen to JR at this early stage in his career.

It was rumored repeatably that NO was listening to offers for him with the only proposal that seemed to have any merit was a deal centered on trading him to the Spurs for worthless Brent Barry.

I was completely surprised to hear that deal discussed. I considered it unlikely NO would want to deal him at such a young age to a division rival, no less. But apparently the talk was there and NO considered it which leads me to believe there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to jump in on trade talks for him this summer.

All I can say is I was crossing my fingers, my legs, and biting my lip hoping we could get Artest somehow.

Yes, Marion's shot is a piece of junk. The difference between him and Childress is he gets it up quicker and guys have to play off Marion to stop the dribble drive, which is a big mistake in my opinion. I would play up on him and force him to have to dribble drive it to the basket, especially if he was hitting the shot. Now, if he was blowing cold out there, then you play off him and let him fire til he starts hitting, then you get up on him. I cannot even begin to imagine Childress in the same class as Marion quickness wise. I just don't think he's got those types of skills. He is not quick enough to get that shot off against the better defenses. You said it yourself when the game is on the line ATL gives it up. What does that tell you? We need snipers when the game is on the line. Again, I don't dislike Childress, but he was basically a 3/4 in college that spent most of his time in the paint area. To me, he's not quick enough on the perimeter to fit in with what we want to do.

That's what appeals to me about Pietrus. He's got good size, very good athleticism, he can shoot it from downtown, along with taking it to the hole, and he can also get down in a defensive stance and deal opponents fits defensively. The guy could hang with Francis defensively. I just don't see Childress being able to do that. I don't see J.R. having the heart and desire to do it.

I've watched the Warriors extensively this season and I completely disagreed with the Dunleavy and JRich parts.

First of all, JRich is the most consistent/accurate shooter on the Warriors this season, other than Derek Fisher, who is on a shooting funk for the past 2 months. JRich gets most of his points not through dunks and layups, but by shooting a high percentage on his mid-/long-range attempts. Last night happened to be one of those nights where he didn't quite get his strokes, whether that was because of his ankle injury (he also struggled shooting the ball in previous game, after spraining his ankle couple night before) or just a bad game.

Secondly, Dunleavy IS the worst shooter this season on this bad shooting squad. Again, last night happened to be different from the trend this season as he shot extremely well. That's the dilemma we Warriors fans have been dealing with the past 3 seasons - that Dunleavy shoots well one out of every 10 games just to tease us with his 'shooter's potential', but he was never able to become the guy we could count on to consistently make shots.

Dunleavy is NOT a pure shooter like many still believe. He is a player with an all-around game that has yet to find the niche in this team and this league, but he was never a 'shooter'.
