This was funny. A must read for everyone on the GARM. Isiah Thomas got crucified and his SF trade has gotten off to a bad start, they are 0-2 with Stevie, he is the laughing stock of the NBA right now.

Not to be an apologist - but -the Knicks would have been 0-2 with or without Francis - they're just a terrible team regardless. They were before - they are now. This season is done for them - obviously the offseason is what they're looking for now.

That article started out hilarious to me, but towards the end it actually started to depress me. Especially the part where he has Billy King talking about how he's wasted the best years of one of the greatest players of his era by surrounding him with mediocre players. It's true and such a waste. Everytime I think about Iverson dragging the 76ers to the finals that one year, it just amazes me. I've met Iverson and he and I were eye to eye. He was literally the exact same size as me and I'm 5'10 155 lbs. It blows me away to think of a guy that size doing what he's done in this league for all ten years now. I'd have thought his body would have broken down on him five years ago the way he plays, but he's going stronger than ever. We'll never know how great he could have been with a competent GM. The same can be said for Garnett and possibly Vince Carter. Maybe it's not too late for Vince Carter.

I would never put Vince Carter in the same company as AI or KG. Unlike those two, I've never gotten the sense that Carter burns to win an NBA championship. With AI and KG, they seem like they would give their left arm to win a title. But Carter just seems like a supremely talent ball-player that gets paid big bucks for a job that he has fun doing (assuming that they are winning some ballgames).

Same here. As hilarious and insightful as the article was, that's the one line that has stuck with me above all else.

Somewhat amusing but way too long. No way I get through that. I never have gotten through a whole Bill Simmons column.

But do you ever notice how lots GM's look pretty bad? After all, the Rockets signed Maloney, Mo Taylor, and Kelving Cato to long term deals, passed on Rashard Lewis in the 2nd round, drafted Boki, etc.

That wasn't very funny at all. Just went on and on. I'd like to see Bill Simmons deal with the pressure of being an NBA GM, and see if he always judged the players' talent perfectly every time. The truth is that the whole thing is pretty much a poker game, and most of the cards are wild, you don't really know what you're going to get.

Good thing Bill Simmons isn't a GM then...but his point about these GMs is pretty on spot...

i thought simmons didn't like walker? i seem to remember when he went to atlanta bill wondering if walker would set the record for most 11-31 games in a season or something like that. though maybe that was just a reasonable opinion thrown in one article.

They passed on Rashard 3 times in the first round, they did not pass on him in the second round, he was gone already and they took Mobley.

when the u.s. first had trouble in world competition, I forgot the name of the games they barely won before the last summer olympics, simmons said walker should be on the team, instead of brand in a column.

He probably just meant based on matchups. He's beaten Walker up a lot in the past, and praised him too. It's a classic Bill Simmons flip-flop attitude. He flip-flopped on Marbury 3 times in the span of 3 years. Same thing with Yao if he keeps up his hot streak.

That's the trouble with reading him I think - even though he gets paid to do what he does, he still acts and writes like a hypersensitive fan prone to wild swings even though, theoretically he's an "establishment" figure now. (Sorry Bill, but wehn you get paid to fly all over the country and go to VIP parties at the super bowl and etc....you're a professional, not an amateur.) So any points he makes that aren't just sheer comic relief can pretty much be thrown in the toilet as far as I'm concerened - there are posters with much more credibility and better analysis on this BBS.
