He's 19 years old, a world-famous basketball player, surrounded by lots of willing girls and he couldn't get any?

No, I can make that comparison as I see fit. That's why his butt got benched because apparently Larry Brown agreed. There are certain situations where your cliche argument works - this isn't among them. If you don't listen to the coach or you don't play the game as a team player, then you don't make the team or you can be Captain Pine Rider.

Had I said "they don't deserve to make the money they do" your argument would've been fine, but as it stands, your argument sucks.

Brown probably benched him to make Detroit's sh!tty selection of Darko look better.

This is also the same idiot - who after the NBA spent millions promoting him - stated "Ain't nothing in the NBA 'bout Carmelo" when he heard he wasn't originally picked for the team. The committee should have stuck with that decision.

big ego...what more can be said?

no doubt he's a good player but it's obvious he's too stupid to realize that the world doesnt revovle around him. seriously, all these "they used to be #1 option" excuses are so lame, if they're good players they'll contribute, and it's obvious that they're not.

Yeah, that title did nothing for that. Silly championship.

You are aware Brown wanted to draft Anthony, aren't you? He couldn't stop himself from gushing all year.

If Anthony played any defense or had anything resembling good shot selection he would have played.

First he whines that he's not being selected for the team, then he whines that he doesn't get enough playing time? And all this from a guy with questionable shot selection and a total of one year of pro experience? Carmelo Anthony is the epitome of what's wrong with USA Basketball. I hope he doesn't get a sniff of the next Olympic team.

I don't think he got to Denver and called the media to his house.

Sh*t, they asked . .he said what he felt.

    is it immature. . .
it is like saying water is wet. . . he *is* only 19

Yeah, his coach shouldn't have asked him to go back in that game he refused to play in either. Freakin coach asking him that. How dare he. Coach should have known better than to ask a player to play.

Anthony has more than just occasional maturity issues. He needs a very strong hand, and it doesn't appear Denver is willing to provide it. That will cost them in the longterm.

Anthony behaved like a spoiled child...

I recall quite a few members here thought he should have qualified as YOR 5 months ago, hm?

I still think he was the Rookie of the Year. That doesn't mean he ain't a punk.

I though Jerry Sloan deserved to win Coach of the Year. That doesn't mean I like that he coaches his teams to play dirty.

EDIT: You did mean ROY when you typed YOR, right?

    Year of Rookie hmm

Wait hold up, why does Anthony deserve to win the RoY ? ...

You have to remember that both him and Lebron started the season with a BANG the first few games, but for the next couple of months, they were hovering below 40% shooting. The only reason they managed to get a bit above that was the teams they played bend over and let'em have their ways. If Darko, Amare, and Yao had those kind of oppertunities in their rookie years, they'd put up monster numbers too.

I thought it should have been BronBron. The fact that Lebron's team didnt make the playoffs should have NOTHING to do with winning the RoY, this is the same bs reason that people used to give Amare the award instead of Yao.

You have it backwards. Melo's FG% hovered below 40% his first two monthes, then gradually increased. He shot close to 50% from the field in February.

I thought Carmelo should win ROY because his team made it to the playoffs in a tougher conference. LeBron led a sub-500 team in stats, but so did Caron Butler the year before. It's not like Yao vs. Stoudemire. Carmelo was in a stacked Western Conference, battling Utah and Portland for the eighth seed (All three teams would probably have gotten home court in the East), on a team with arguably the same amount of talent, if not less, and I think he helped his team more than LeBron did. I'm not projecting who will be the better player, because clearly (IMHO) James will be. But last year, I think Melo had a better year on a better team (that was better primarely because of him).

But Anthony still makes millions of dollars, not to mention the fact that he still played a lot of minutes in the last couple of games.

Your argument is the one that is cliched. You here it all the time from whinny fans.

It's hardly for us not to consider those overall factors (both on and off the court) before you give the poll to candidates, isn't it?

    agreed.

Yes. I realized that 'mis-type' thing right after the post displayed, but didn't reedit it by posting a new one considering my 'Senior Member' status... well, You remind me of the promise to Jeff-- I'll donate the tip-jar before new season.

btw, just search those old [Rookie of the Year] posts, funny to review it now from different standpoint.

There's the classy way for showing your feeling and there's the whiny way. The guy forgot to leave his ego back in Denver when he join the team. I'm glad he got benched.
