I don't I don't want a team of mecenaries I beleive in Loyalty . . .Team . .togetherness I'd rather watch a team grow to be a champion rather than renting/buying a championship Rocket River I want to see OUR GUYS succeed . . . means more than renting some dudes who don't give a ***** about HOUSTON
this is the nba, a business. there is a reason people call it PRO sports. even in a pure sports sense, it's still different than a real war. royalty takes a backseat when you think of every player is in essence a mercenary - the only difference is the number of years one stays with the same team. throughout the league history, just how many guys have stayed with the same team the entire career? this loyalty vs. mercenary stuff is a little too naive imo.
Face it, ron is our only pitbull dog on this team. Without him we'll just be another 1st rd push over pansy. This team rub off of him period. Every championship teams have 1 pitbull dog. The bulls had rodman, lakers had shaq, celtics had KG, the 90's rockets had mad max and barkley, the spurs had... nobody and that's why they never won back to back, and now the rockets have ron. Ron bring out the beast in charmin toilet paper.
ever seen that priceline commercial? "err, you wuss... go lower..." "$99?" "now you're negotiating..."
Ron makes a lot of mistakes, but he is the toughest guy on the team without a doubt. If he didn't step against the Blazers in Game 6, we wouldn't have made it past the 1st round.
Guys have been talking about dogs for awhile. Hell, my college coach used to say the best player had to be the dog. Its not new, but maybe people are latching on to it.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6430254.html >> Artest self-critical That leaves the Rockets with some difficult decisions, starting with how to approach Ron Artest’s free agency. Artest’s agent, David Bauman, indicated the four-year, $37 million contract extension the Rockets could have offered would have been below market value. <<
don't take every word your coach says literally. you know kenny has confessed he secretly fed the ball to akeem many times, and that wasn't the play rudy had called for. td was the alpha male on his squad, but he's hardly a dog. magic is not a dog, either. just to name a couple.
Duncan and magic were dogs. Go watch the 05 ring team when duncan willed that team in the 4th qt and drew a foul or scored on every possesion in the last 6 mins of the game. Magic would not only chew you ass out, but he would drop daggers in the hearts of the opposing teams. Being a dog means not only being tough, but being mentally tough and being able to will your team in the heated battles.
Assuming that DM and Les can't work things out with Ron,that would leave them with only two choices.Let him go, or a sign and trade. If they decide to go the S/T route,I think Ron would be desirable only on teams that have championship aspirations. I would like to ask you or anyone else, that who might be the best trading partner for Houston in that case?
going by your definition here, how does artest qualify as a "dog"? getting into kobe's face after being elbowed and then getting ejected doesn't qualify, imo. losing composure and shooting the ball like a first timer in a hunting field or like dick chenney sure doesn't qualify, either.
>> Artest’s agent, David Bauman, indicated the four-year, $37 million contract extension the Rockets could have offered would have been below market value. << hope he remember wells story in king...
i don't think the market for Ron Artest this offseason is that favorable, with teams saving money amidst the financial crisis and the 2010 sweepstakes, so the chances he stays is high, or he could go Bonzi Wells and sit out the season then sign for a low ball offer
serious, Morey should have a understanding of our situation and he should know how much is in the pool for artest. I think artest will be signed about 8 mil a year for 3 years. we want to keep artest in check and happy. a upset artest would be useless to us even at $1 a year contract. beside we can't lowball the guy just because of the cap situation, that's not fair to him. he is certainly worth that much. Regarding to production. he is a defense first offense second player. we have two headed defensive monster in Shane and Artest. There are certain player that shane will guard better and others artest do a better job. since tmac down and Yao down, artest has been asked to carry the offense load out of his comfort zone. That is why he's not producing.
Lowball? No such thing. The Rockets can't stop other teams from making a better offer to any free agent. Artest's agent has let on he thinks a contract starting at $8M over 3 yrs is under market value. The choice is easy. Try to work out a S&T.
