some parts from the espn article. Meanwhile, adding a fourth perimeter player should be of huge benefit to Yao Ming as well. Opponents will be much more reluctant to double him and will have to recover once they do, with McGrady, Artest, Battier and Rafer Alston all competent 3-point threats and Brent Barry and Luther Head poised to come in firing off the bench. Among the starters, McGrady is a very old 29, Yao is 28, Battier is 30 and Alston is 32; behind them, presumptive sixth man Luis Scola is 28, Head is 25 and Barry is 36. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=artestdeal-080730
I still can't f'n believe it...A true Coup d’état If anyone can coach him, its Rick...Winning the Finals or bust...
And this was Morey's minor trade? This guy is goooood! My gut told me it was gonna be more than just a minor trade. This makes the Rockets roster more solid than it's ever been. Thanks Morey!
Would be very happy to meet! I'm in Munich, so if you're coming in late September, I know a good event where we can have the beers together...
I wish they had gone after Shawn Marion....but Artest should still make them a 60 win team. If they hope for more.....McGrady and Yao are still gonna have to stay healthy. A by product of the trade is it gives Stevie Franchise a chance to step into Bobby Jackson's role and be the first guard off the bench.
Dude we got Artest for pretty much free. How can you be complaing we didn't go after somone else? Just be happy Morey is a wizard & can pull off such a one sided trade! Plus if you want Marion you'll have to give up T-Mac or Yao becuase he gets paid close to $20 Mill.
It should boost his record sales too. I can't wait to hear his next record with Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Geto Boys, Bun B and Beyonce. So: Alston/Brooks/Francis TMac/Barry/ Head Artest/Battier/Novak Scola/Hayes/ Landry?/Dorsey Yao/ Deke/ Wow just, wow.
Ron is a great roster, but morey can't promise that we will be gonna win the title .Frankly ,the rockets becomes more competetive after landing artest, but we may find our roster list is not that luxury comparing to other western team's.The mavs have more stars than we have,Kidd,Dirk,Jo H,Terry,..... I'm not praising the mavs ,i'm just frankly saying that we should know the stars don't mean the title. Celtics have the big three, but mavs have big four. besides ,the 04 lakers had big four:K Bryant,O'neal,Payton,Malone. However ,they we defeated by Pistons. What leads to title is not the combination of stars,is the organization of the team. Playing like a team is the most important point for a team which intends to win the title.A team with team work makes its every roster stars, like the 04 pistons,Mike James was made star as well as Ben Wallace. While ,a team made up of 15 rosters will make every star on team idiot, like Knicks and Mavs. It's not the big three that gives Boston the ship,it's Rivers' work which made the big three a whole. Rick is a sophisticated coach, who is able to do a better work than Doc has done in Boston. With Adelman's contribution, rockets will win the title, for sure.
i love this trade if they put artest at the 4, battier and artest are going to be a beast on defense... and were going to have a good bench with scola, landry (if he stays), barry, head, hayes, mutombo and francis
Damn..I just might do that. Just checked vegas odds and they have the ROX 15-1 odds. I've got a friend going to vegas this weekend. Gonna have him put some $ down for me.
Getting Ron Artest now means we want to win now before 2010 happens. Then we'll shake the tree and let wait for new leaves to sprout. But in the meantime, the championship was supposed to be ours until Yao went down. Now, we're giving it the final push. PLease, dear Lord, no major injuries this year and we will honor you with a championship. Amen.
