Heard on ESPN 790 on the way home that it may not happen after all. Allegedly Houston doesn't have the pieces necessary to make a deal, even 3-way.
I hope that we are able to some how make the trade happen....Even if it includes Luther Head... Ron is just to good of a player not to go after him. Having said that I'm curious how some of our posters are so sure Head will never become an allstar....I'm sure everyone is basing that opinion on seeing Head play for a little over 1/3 of a season....and obviously having a crystal ball! With what I've seen so far of him this season I wouldn't be at all suprised to hear his name in an allstar game someday....or maybe not to early to tell....
Personally, I think the guy's an unintelligent, self-centered moron but you simply cannot discount his ability on the court. I really think if the offer is on the table he's a Rocket. To CD and Rockets brass, this is probably about pride at this point. Here we are, a supposed contender in the gutter of the Western Conference. Then comes along a chance to acquire a top 15 talent with baggage and a fair contract (he makes LESS than $7 M this season). That is a move you almost have to make. Artest could potentially have a Rasheed Wallace like effect on this team if he can keep his head on straight.
I like Ron Artest game just as much as the next guy but i really don't see him fitting in hear. he said we wants the ball pretty much all the time that's why he wants to somewher where he can be the main man.
I am not sure where he will be the Main guy? LA Lakers or clippers? Golden State? If he was NOt the main guy in Indy- he wont be the main guy for sure in any of the team that would need him now. IF there is value that makes him special it is his defensive intensity. The offense is a bonus. We said the same thing about sheed- and guess what Sheed may have 2 more rings by the time we get this boat change course!
Mark Kreidler of ESPN wrote an article tonight about Francis' and Artest's situations, how they are similar, and he just passingly mentioned how Houston entered the conversation for Artest. NOTE: He likely is just recycling the info that was stated by Sheridan (that initiated this thread), but worth passing along. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=kreidler_mark&id=2291521 ... and ...
Im for any trade for Artest as long as it doesnt involve Head,Tmac,Yao. I wouldnt even mind giving them this years first round.
I say let's do the deal. We have no shot at the title in the near future with this crew, anyway. This is a gamble worth taking. Head plus Swift should be enough to get it done. With Alston, TMac and Artest getting big minutes at the 1-2-3, we would only have limited time for Head, anyway. I'd even throw in Wesley and Moochie's expiring contracts and take back Croshere's bad contract to get the deal done.
Artest is a complete knucklehead, but I still say YES PLEASE!!! They can choose any player they want from our team, other then Tmac & Yao, throw in the first round pick if that's not enough.
Most logical trading partner in a 3 way would be the Nets. If they love Stromile as the media say they do, we could trade Swift to the Nets and see if the Pacers want anyone from the Nets in return.
hahaha... what a visual that is... as well as the clyde/artest in a cage intro comparison... funny stuff guys. We do need a bruiser inside. Perhaps that's artest... I am afraid of his head though. I'd be willing to take the chance if it didnt include moving our youth movement - Head ... TMAC/Yao. Might be willing to take the chance with anyone else just to see what would happen...
True but I am pretty sure they can use a guy like Krstic or Uncle Cliffy come playoff time. Tack on Wesley (and his expiring contract), Head, and a future 1st rounder, I would think they'd at least entertain that offer.
