You have to think there's a lot more opportunity to get into trouble in Houston than in Indiana.

Even if the Rockets backcourt were fully fit (ie all players available) they're still going to get blown away in the playoffs. Artest can change that.

The media has Rocks fans by the balls at the moment. They can speculate (just make it up) all they want and it won't get shot down. Rocks fans are that desperate.

Artest won't be in Rox uni this season.

I agree. We've got to cultivate our talent & let Head grow with the team. Head & possibly Howard are the only 2 I wouldn't trade. Swift 3rd.

I read somewhere this morning that Indy only wanted Maggette so they could turn around and trade him to Atlanta for Harrington. So, that would certainly be a team they could target to facilitate the deal.

One of the earlier rumours was that atlanta would trade harrington for artest but they didn't want ron themselves so a third team had to be involved with a player the hawks would want.

I heard from the LA local news this morning Maggett having a possible season ending injury could have prevented that deal, not sure how reliable the source was.

I wish we could add a poll on this thread to see what the support really is. I'd actually be very for it. That means giving up Head, Swift, Howard, the #1 pick, whoever they wanted really. Sure, there's a risk, but there's also examples of similar situations actually working out. Who thought Rasheed Wallace would thrive in Detroit? I think that by the time everyones healthy and playing together, who knows, there could be a coaching change in the future. I could see Rudy coming back. If everyone from Phil Jackson to Brian Hill can come back to coach the same team, it's Rudy, the player's coach.

I could be full of crap though. ;)

Artest would be Mother Teresa, if the benchmark was Dennis Rodman when Bulls got him on board. Absolutely no doubt about that.

A lot of his image has to do with the media- let us give the man a shot- assuming we have one!

i THINK if we are going to have to work with Atlanta we are going to lose Stro. i think we could keep head since they have stoudamire. It might involve taking on some extra contract from the Pacers as well in the form of croshere but we are so depleted that he would be a scoring asset and someone to cover van horn types in the west.

    During the Rockets championship,
they had a player who was an awesome defensive player.
they had a tough player who brought energy to the game.
They had a player who'd beat up people in hostile crowds.

I believe in Artest settling down in the right environment. Houston sports have all been that for people. Maxwell. Carl Everett.

And damn I love his game...I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd also push for any possible combo that doesn't give up Head. But if necessary, then he must go (and if ATL is involved, it's gotta be Head or Alston unless they want Wesley at the point for a 1 year stopgap.. though yes I know, Head isn't a point really)

Man can you imagine Artest, TMac and Yao all running to the stand throwing punches to fans? That would be something

That's the comparison I was thinking of too. He's not Wallace, who just had a temper problem. He's close to Rodman, but Rodman had enough self-control to draw back when he got too close to the edge. He's like Maxwell, letting his idiosyncrosies get in his own way and the team's.

I reluctantly cast my vote for "acquire Artest". We need someone to light a fire under T-Mac & Yao.

My friend Rodman had to shell out a good amount to settle with a Photographer- Remeber that?

I am not defending RON- but if media did not make it such a big deal I am not sure he would have the aura he has now. Well Van Gundy went after somebody's legs and A big future hall of fame guy had a rap CD !

Erase the Detroit incident- and think of a defensive stud who can score and we can have him for 2 years at 7 million dollars? In Basketball terms ONLY this is stupid to ignore.

But Ron wants to be the first option on offense, how do you fix that?
