But we still retain his bird rights, so if a team does want him, has the players to trade but is over the cap, we can still get something out of it. (granted we're willing to take back the salary he negotiates)
I can't see anyone giving him more than a 3 year deal for obvious reasons. A contending team may add him as the final piece (like the Rockets did before McGrady decided to unofficially retire) I think if the Lakers come up short again this season you could see him in LA. The team has a winning atmosphere and strong leaders in Phil and Kobe. Two things I think you need to get the most out of Ron. As far as what he would bring to the Lakers, well, just look at how Boston beat them down in the Finals last year. That team is lacking all sorts of toughness.
The economy will begin affecting NBA teams and the amount they are willing to spend on FAs. Half of the clubs in the league are running operating deficits and the NBA just got a credit line backed by their TV revenues so the 15 money losing teams can tap into it if needed. Artest is overrated, teams will see that he isn't the guy that can turn around a team or take them to the next level. He didn't do it here and he didn't do it in Sacramento. I think he'll be lucky to sign a deal for much more than he's making now.
