Roy Keane? Vieira's damn good, but he's not even the best in his own league. Besides Keane, I might agree with your assessment. Kinda sucks for Gooners that he's such a malcontent.
Well, for pure talent, or for physically dominating a game, Viera is heads above Keane. For pure vocal and clubhouse leadership, you may have an argument for Keane, although he is (I believe) older and Viera is still moving towards his prime. That is the rumor. Although there is also speculation that Wenger will move on VB even if Viera does not leave. Well, injuries and suspensions have really hurt them. However, Sol Campbell has been superb since he got over his early jitters from the move, and are severely punishing teams that push forward too much. I think the fact they can hold teams like Leverkusen to a goal in two straight with Stepanovs in the back is a testament to their ability to play solid, if not pretty D. Seaman is old, but he is smart, he communicates well with the players in front of him, and once he has played more games should be totally in synch. He is what we like to call a 'grizzled veteran presence.' Besides, now he's missed the last five months he's well rested for the stretch run and his backup has got some good big game exposure. Notice its past tense. They are anything but boring now. And actually I made a mistake with my other post. Arsenal had 11 first team players missing against Leverkusen. I don't what that says to the rest of you, but it should be scaring you if you root for someone else.
Keane will be 31 this summer so he's in his prime. At best, I believe Vieira to be Keane's equal. Keane may have less pure footballing talent than Vieira but he more than makes up for it with his workrate and leadership. I've never seen the man take a moment's rest even in the ugliest of games. I see we'll agree to disagree, especially about the supposed chasm between the two. At any rate, I have seen Keane against Vieira many times and it's always the most entertaining bit of the game, for certain.
keeley, i wrote in my post that Keane certainly is more of a vocal leader than Viera. But i am pretty sure the consensus would say Viera is better than Keane, as he's not even really mentioned in the same breath as Viera. That really isn't a knock on Keane though, since he obviously is the glue that holds Man U together, IMO.
I don't know what concensus you're going on, but oh well. I take into account you live in Highbury, no? Also take into account I have too many damn Irish United lovers as friends. As I said before, I agree to disagree.
