Yea - I agree. But I also see the price of CA increasing as our need increases (no more Sura). I don't think Sura will last the season and now would be a good time to get an insurance policy. Plus he's young enough to grow with the team. But being young and not an ex-Knick is 2 strikes against him.
This is a no-brainer people. We do this in a heartbeat, anyone outside of T-Mac/Yao is a great deal for Arroyo. I don't think the people undervaluing him have seen him play. CA would be exactly what our team needs, besides the obvious defensive minded 4.
Here you go. Also works with Giricek. Tell you what, Jerry. You're really busting my balls here. I'll even throw in - throw in, I said - our 2005 draft pick. That could be huge! Let's just shake on it right here, and we can do the contracts later. Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes) PG Reece Gaines (2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 10.8 minutes) Houston receives: SF Matt Harpring (13.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.9 apg in 33.9 minutes) PG Carlos Arroyo (8.2 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 5.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) Change in team outlook: +11.1 ppg, +1.7 rpg, and +5.3 apg. Utah trades: SF Matt Harpring (13.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.9 apg in 33.9 minutes) PG Carlos Arroyo (8.2 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 5.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) Utah receives: PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes) PG Reece Gaines (2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 10.8 minutes) Change in team outlook: -11.1 ppg, -1.7 rpg, and -5.3 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Utah being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Utah had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. You have been assigned Trade ID number 2162480
It took more than 30 mins after the thread has been started before someone said this. Is it a record?
It doesn't sound good. Sura is tough, but I'm worried. From the Chronicle (and apologies if it's been posted): Sura's knee 'day to day' Rockets guard Bob Sura, who played a day after he had fluid in his troublesome right knee drained, said the procedure helped but the real test will be for how long. "It feels a lot better than it did yesterday," Sura said. "It takes the fluid out and takes the pressure off. Hopefully, I won't have to have it again. You don't want to do it too often. The last time was three weeks ago. You don't want to do it every three weeks. "I also had an injection, actually a series of injections, of some lubrication for the knees. Some guys have had success with it in the past." Beginning with Wednesday's game at Dallas, the Rockets play seven games in 10 nights, including three back-to-backs. "I wish I could look that far ahead, but I'm just trying to get through tonight and tomorrow," Sura said. "It's basically day by day." Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said it would not help to monitor Sura's movements or limit his playing time because the problem with the knee is what it allows Sura to do. "It's not the minutes," he said. "It's the knee." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2990564 I don't know why the Jazz would do us a favor, unless it was a "favor" like the Rice deal. I'll pass on those, thank you very much. Keep D&D... uh, GARM Civil!!
I've watched Arroyo plenty. It's 100% the wrong thing to do and here are 6 solid reasons why... 1) The Jazz system makes players like Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley and Bryon Russell look much bettet that they actually are. 2) Arroyo played poorly before the Jazz, other than vs the USA he played poorly during the Olympics and he's playing poorly now. Not a very good track record. 3) If Arroyo is in Sloan's doghouse, why would anyone think he could stay out of Van Gundy's doghouse? Sloan wants solid D, good transition O, good spacing in the offense, no TO's. 4) The Jazz aren't going to send us Arroyo without us sending them at least our 1st round pick this summer. Without that pick, we will not be able to move Mo Taylor if the opportunity presents itself. 5) If we send our pick to Utah, and no players than we've spent our 1st Rd pick and our trade exception. These are the only assets we have to participate when teams are having "Fire Sales" at the trade deadline. 6) Arroyo has 3 more seasons @ ~ $4m/year. I'd rather offer Earl Watkins our full MLE since he's unresticted this summer. My hunch is Earl wouldn't mind a pay increase from his current $1.4m and the opportunity to start. There are better deals out there if the Rox are patient. And IMHO, Barrett's not that bad...very few folks can stay step for step with Earl Boykins like Andre did vs DEN.
Thanks GATER, great info. I was kind of on the fence when it came to Arroyo but, because of some of the hype he has recieved and game he had vs. USA, I was leaning a litte towards the 'let's get him' thought. You completely moved me to the opposite end of the thought spectrum. You are probably right. If he is so good, then Sloan wouldn't have him at the end of the bench, doghouse or not.
no, CD/JVG is not gonna sign any young players. They'd sign doc rivers as a pg before they take carlos arroyo.
Earl Watkins? You mean Earl Watson? I am with you on Watson, but how about something in the neighborhood of 3M per season instead of 5M per (Full MLE). Basically a deal similar to what Mike James got in Milwaukee.
ill second that.. they seem to have some really good natural chemistry. They get 2 or 3 fastbreaks every game. I really love this new style of ball. Lets hope it stays =) I hope Sura can stay healthy... i always thought he was that one white boy that you dont wanna play against cuz he can drop 30 on you.... boy did he prove me right.
He pissed me off so bad at the Olympics I'd be happy to see the Rox pick him up just to not have to face him again....
