Netflix does not and never will work that way, especially in terms of customer expectations. And they've got a bad enough reputation depicting series as streaming and then only providing early or partial seasons; or, like Dinner for Five, only one freaking episode.
Not sure what you guys are watching but I think this season is brilliant. A little serious/ and edgy than the last 3 seasons for sure.
Agreed. I really enjoyed the whole season, but it definitely built into a groove as things tied back together.
Spoiler The Tobias episode killed me. Anyone see when he was was sitting on the couch next to Gob, who was sad, and he says to Gob, "You look like how I feel." Gob slowly turns to him and says, "Gay?" The delivery was epic. This show is great!
Great scene. In the GOB episode while he is sitting there and Tobias is talking to his wife you can hear Tobias do his little spin movie Fallacy!
just finished season 4...what a disappointing final scene of the last episode (not counting the scene after the credits)... really just petered out in that final scene and was so anticlimactic
I'm pretty sure that's what they intended to do. Isla Fisher is a bigger w**** than Lindsay Bluth lol
I agree, it was abrupt. Perhaps they'll pick up from there in the movie. some thoughts: Spoiler Did all of you marathon your way through it? If not, was the plot still easy to follow? I felt that if I didn't watch it in one go that I'd lose story continuity. I probably missed out on many of the subtleties but I felt that I would forget what was happening if I didn't watch each episode right after the previous one. The other other thing that caught me off guard is that the characters are all so much more dark/gloomy/depressed. Not expecting this, the family members seemed unfamiliar to me with some of their actions/behavior. Oh well, they're from Mitchell Hurwitz's imagination not mine, so I can't claim to know the characters. Lastly, Spoiler Isla Fisher banging George Michael Bluth? I couldn't buy into it. She looked great though I expect I'll rewatch this set of episodes a few times until I find all the subtleties, but I don't expect to watch this 10 years later like I would with the first set
I marathoned my way through it, and I thought it was pretty easy to follow. I didn't like how they had to cater to everyone's schedule though. I know everyone's busy, but honestly, this 4th season should have had a commitment from everyone to contractually show up for every episode. We waited 10 years for this fourth season. Personally, I wouldn't have minded waiting another year if they could work out the kinks and do it right. Spoiler Was it just me, or was there absolutely no mention of the banana stand? And Anyong, who was used as a running gag, was a throwaway 5 second segment at the end of one of the episodes? That's really lame. Spoiler I felt like Henry Winkler's character was used too much. Bob Loblaw's character pretty much wasn't used at all. John Krasinski had the smallest part ever. Again, it wasn't all terrible, but it definitely did not meet the expectations of the first three seasons. If the entire cast was able to freely commit their time to this fourth season, it wouldn't feel as disjointed to me. Best episodes = Gob's and Tobia's episodes. And remember, guys: if you're on the fence about something, just put it into Bluth.
I think even if the schedules had worked out, the season would still have been made in this format or some other non-linear storytelling technique - they needed a uniqueness for the resurrection season to be extra special and this is a pretty impressive way to do it. I think they executed it very well, even if I am not a great fan of the style (only because catching the subtleties in this format was that much harder) Spoiler Yeah the two gags you mentioned were really short. Extra Spoilered in case you want to find a couple of extra tidbits related to those gags yourself: Spoiler Additional references were Michael wearing a Banana stand shirt at some point, maybe as a nod to him being the only one who still cared about that business. The Annyong gag was referred to on Lucille's uniform.
But it was AD! I don't think it needed anything resembling a gimmick for it's resurrection. It wasn't like some old, outdated comedy that no one remembers thus needing something to draw viewers in. This type of storytelling was fine, but I would have much preferred the old AD type of storytelling, where not everything needed to weave in and out / be connected. Spoiler Again, one major detraction of this type of storytelling is that we got too much of someone like Bluth Sr. so early that, if you don't really like his character, you're SOL. And if your favorite character was Buster, he only got 1 episode at the end for himself, while he was barely used in all the episodes prior. We pretty much didn't see Lindsay after her arc ended, and it just made me mad that we didn't get to see all the characters, all the time. I appreciate the "newness" of the interconnections that Hurwitz was trying to do, but I just thought they could have used a little more time to make it like the AD of old. There's a reason why the show was so damn good to both audiences and critics alike. There was no reason to go away from that. At all.
Makes sense & I agree quite a bit. I do maintain that they needed some gimmick for the re-launch just because people like me had high expectations knowing the creator had years to think about the new series. This helps alleviate some of that pressure. Spoiler It does contribute to the whole they're-not-really-a-tight-knit-family-anymore theme; even though the family aspect was such a huge draw for me for the first 3 seasons. Of course, these are just a random person's explanations for it - enough for me to accept the season and be satisfied, but I understand that it's obviously different for different people.
The wife and I watched it Sunday and part of Monday. First few episodes do take a bit to take off but once we start seeing all the pieces come together it really starts to pick up. We are going to watch it again when we have some time because I know we’ve missed lots on the first viewing. We’ve already been quoting stuff to each other, I really hope they get a movie green lit at some point!
I liked the Buster episode the most. He said "Mothers Boy Ball". while staring right at George Michael. Cena was laughing like a mofo.
is it just me, or did will arnett seem to be unable to channel his inner Gob? just seemed like will arnett as himself to me.
