The problem with shows that have real actors is they usually go on to do other things once a show gets cancelled. Family Guy had no problem coming back because they are cartoon characters.

Remember that show My So Called Life. It flopped in it's 1st season on tv then MTV picked it up and it became a hit. Unfortunately for MTV Claire Danes didn't want to go back to do the show because she wanted to pursue her movie career.

I'm not saying that there's a good chance of it coming back after it hits syndication... I'm saying that Fox will just continue to look like complete idiots (like they did after Family Guy), while shows like Stacked and The War at Home stay on the air.

Frankly, Fox is the victim of their own paltry 2-hour only prime-time. That makes expensive shows like AD that much harder to keep, when they don't get the ratings... and its a problem that a bigger network would not have had.

If anything, Fox lucked out by Family Guy being a cartoon... and thus they were able to save face and bring it back. They won't have such luck w/ AD...

DEPRESSING DEVELOPMENT: Fox all but confirmed late Thursday that Arrested Development has been canceled. Not only is the show being pulled off the air until Dec. 5, but Arrested's third-season order has been slashed from 22 episodes to just 13. (Arrested's Monday-night companion Kitchen Confidential is also cooked.) And how's this for stomach-churning irony: The Bluths got the hook the same day that ABC extended a full-season order to Freddie.

    *shudder*

I LOVE AD, and I'm going to be severely pissed when FOX boots it off the air, just like I was when Firefly was cancelled, Family Guy was cancelled, Andy Richter Controls the Universe was cancelled, Greg the Bunny was cancelled, Futurama was cancelled, The Tick was cancelled...

I just pray that Comedy Central picks it up or something. God, how I hate the average American viewer.

    **** FOX.
    1. They move the time slot around
    2. Baseball crushes any sort of following of non-diehards
    3. They barely promote it at all (WHERE WERE THE MLB PLAYOFF ADS? HOUSE? PRISON BREAK? STACKED? Give me a break STACKED?!)
    4. AD may be too "smart" for it's own good. Maybe one of the greatest comedies since seinfeld, except the only difference with seinfeld is you could get MOST of the jokes without ever seeing any other episode. AD rewards it's viewers for having not only jokes anyone would get, but a ton of inside jokes for those who keep up with the show.

Bleh, ****ing fox. They need to quit cancelling their best shows in place of other ****ty shows (STACKED?!!!?)

Hell, at least put AD of FX and let it stay out of everyone elses way or something. Argh. Maybe HBO or NBC will pick it up and move it to Thursday nights or something.

We all saw this coming, and i thought I would take it better than I am. I am crushed. This is the best TV comedy, other than possibly Seinfeld in its prime, ever. Arrested Development was in its prime from episode #1.

    Ugh, this hurts.

It was originally aired on Fox, but before the show even came out the network dunderheads did not understand or like the pilot, so Joss had to put together a quick mini-pilot, which was the train job.

Fox aired it first, then canceled the series after only 11 episodes aired. They released the DVD boxed set (all 14 episodes - 3 never aired) and it went CRAZY in sales, people loved the show.

Apparently Sci Fi tried to pick it up and reinvigorate the series, but many of the actors had moved onto other gigs....so Universal/Fox made a movie called Serenity out of it....damn fine movie too.

The Fox execs basically screwed the pooch on 2 of the best shows ever to air on regular TV.....RIP Firefly and AD.

I've never watched the show before. The only network tv show I watch at primetime is LOST. Other than that I watch the filler shows like Sienfield, King of the Hill, Simpsons etc.

Jeffster isn't going to be happy about 7th Heaven.

Ten years for basically a family show is an excellent run. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

On another note, I'm crushed by the loss of 7th Heaven. It's definitely in the top 5 funniest shows on TV right now... albeit, unintentionally. Television Without Pity just won't be the same without RevCam, the T-1000, SamVid, Asslee, and the rest of the CamFam.

I'm waiting for reruns to air on Comedy Central after the Daily Show...they'd be back in no time.

I should be the prez of Fox.

    maybe it's my fault.

i had caught bits and pieces of AD in the past and thought it was funny, but i never really got into it, partly because i didn't know when it was on. but last monday, i happened to catch it right at the beginning and decided to watch and i laughed my ass off the entire time. and monday at 7 was good for me b/c nothing else is on and it could lead into two and a half men and MNF. and so they cancel it 4 days later.

it's almost exactly the same way i was with family guy. thought it was funny, never watched, watched, got hooked, canceled, watch it all the time on cartoon network. hopefully someone picks up AD somewhere b/c i'd really like to watch the earlier episodes.

and it didn't fail b/c it's smart and people are dumb like everyone wants to think. plenty of stupid shows fail. it failed b/c it's different and it's hard to get a lot of people hooked on that. set-up/punchline is a time-honored method of attracting viewers. quirky comedy isn't. but if you like the quirky comedy, you usually love it. i'm always worried nbc is gonna cancel scrubs. it's not a normal sitcom, i don't think it gets huge ratings (though better than AD i think), they're always pre-empting it with other stuff, and changing when it airs. they're not giving it enough of a chance to succeed. just like AD apparently. however, being too smart isn't why either show has or will go down. my friends are as smart as me and i doubt many of them would like scrubs or AD while i love them. for some reason this style of humor is perfect for me but not for them. unfortunately for AD and scrubs, there just aren't enough who like the off-the-wall type stuff.

even family guy was off the wall and couldn't get good enough ratings to last the first time, and it certainly isn't too smart for it's own good.

oh well, hopefully i get to see more of AD somewhere.

Firefly was a Fox show. Sci-fi channel picked up the rights to re-air the Firefly episodes.

...if you're watching the sci-fi channel, you should also watch battlestar galactica. it is the best show on tv right now :)

I think this is actually a step in the right direction. You can't even be considered a good TV show anymore until you've been cancelled by Fox.
