skip bayless: yao never goes inside and he only plays 25 minutes a game. tim duncan will destroy..what's that? I'm 3 years behind? rats I'll save this for cold pizza when less people will hear my mornic statements.
I think the comparison is poor because the bench makeup is very different, and the only obvious similarity is the combination of the leading post player and and elite swingman. Yao at the high post does recall shades of the triangle offense they used to dominate with, though. Our team has a much more powerful small ball look, and not near the post with the exception of Yao.
That statement makes no sense. Utah beat GS in 5 games. They matched up just fine. On the other hand GS would have been a nightmare matchup for us IMO. Yao would be fronted and the speed of the warriors would have given us trouble much like the suns do. Davis would have abused RA, and we would lose in 5. But if we were somehow able to get to WCF, i think the spurs would have been as good of a matchup as anyone in the playoffs.
No, it makes sense. Golden State got away with going small against Dallas because of the very fact that they didn't have a player like Yao who could take the ball down low and punish them for it. As a result they were never able to slow down the game to the pace that they wanted, and Golden State just ran them out of the building over and over again. The Mavs are NOT a high-paced team, even though they are very good offensively. That's what killed them in the regular season against the Warriors, and that's what killed them in the playoffs. Golden State would put five guards on the floor and the only way Dallas could match up was putting Dirk at the 5, and they just took him out of the game easily. Utah, on the other hand, beat them handily by playing a physical half-court game and punishing them inside with Boozer. I'm one of those people that think that if we had gotten past the first round, there was a very good chance of us winning it all, especially considering how well we matched up with the Spurs last year. Also, Skip Bayless ...
They're all sports analysts, so they tend to over analyze. All national reporters who don't have a team or beat to cover get lost in the massiveness of the entire sports spectrum. None of them actually watch the rockets enough to make a truly thoughtful conjecture, so it ends up being an educated guess constructed mostly through tapes, box scores, and competitor's articles. Plus ESPN essentially tells them where to stand. I am glad they still consider us a darkhorse contender, we don't need early bandwagon syndrome (READ: 06-07 MAVS).
i stand by my claim that if we were to play GS in the playoffs we wouldve been run out of the building. remember, last year we were a team that could NEVER catch up when we were behind. im glad we didnt advance because we wouldve been embarassed by golden state. we wouldve probably lost a game by 60 points.
other than shaq, what other post threat did LA have? glen rice? and even then, i doubt that bonzi's post game is not as polished as his. i personally think this teams make up is more like the second title team in the 90s . hakeem(yao) clyde(tmac) elie(battier) chuck brown(chuck hayes) rafer(kenny) cassell(mj)
tim cowlishow writes for the dallas morning news. thats why its so funny he would pick us, especially after just losing to the mavs.
ok chill out. bonzi and glen rice are two completely different players. bonzi is a post player and a solid contributor, while rice was arguably one of the greatest 3 point shooters of all time.
I agree, first of all we woulda had homecourt advantage against Golden State. You think the Asians wouldn't be chanting "Jia You" to Yao every "home" game at San Fran? It would have done like psychological damage to the Warriors to hear Yao cheered everytime he touched the ball, shot the ball, passed gas, sit down, stand up, pick his nose, made a face, etc.
ok chill out. i wasnt comparing bonzi to glen rice. i was commenting on the statement that the championship lakers post game was far better than this rockets team. I was simply saying that the lakers post game was just shaq, albeit dominant shaq, and occasionally glen rice. Read before u try and make someone look stupid. I wasn't comparing more than their post games.
dont take that yao being hakeem statement as me saying yao is as good. Of course Hakeem is better. i think this supporting cast has a chance to be better. its still too early to tell, IMO. i was just stating the similar type of games and roles between the players on both teams.
Wilbon did most of the talking. The question was something like 'Is yesterday a meaningful win?' He said not in the course of the season, it's an 82 game season and still early, but it is important for Houston. They have to beat the good teams (Suns, Mavs, Spurs, etc) so this was a good one. He likes the addition of Adelman, Tmac doesn't need to carry the team, they look better this year. Corneisser said he's still in NFL mode, it's a long season, he'll said he'll wait until the playoffs to make a judgement call. I like Cornheisser, but you're not getting paid to wait until after the fact. I can read the box score for that stuff.
