Why would they? Did they call themselves the Irving Cowboys the last 30 something years?

Stadium is easily the best in the nation at this point. Texas is lucky to have Reliant and Cowboys Stadiums...probably the two best in football.

I guess it's just me, but I don't see the point of having a 40 million dollar screen other than to say " hey jacksonville my screen is worth more than your stadium."

Arlington is lucky to have that stadium. Their tax contributions had a cap of about 350 million which means the rest of the 1.2 billion dollars was either paid out of Jerry Jones pocket or raised by him. The benifits already so far excede everything else.

    Big 12 championship game
    Super Bowl
    NBA All Star Game
    World Soccer Games
    Cotton Bowl

There is lots more than that as well and Arlington is going to benifit from all of this.

The really nice thing is that there are 35,000 tickets available for each game at only 29 dollars a ticket! Easily the best value in the NFL. The parking is not close but there are shuttles to mitigate the walking.

Wingstop saved his life. Thank you for getting the joke unlike the other morans. I'd rep you if I could. :)

Back to the stadium, I'm seriously contempleting going to the NBA All Star game to see the slam dunk contest especially with those giant screens.

I bet Dwight is already planning a dunk that involves using the screens as a prop! :D

A friend who toured the stadium this morning took a photo of them raising it.

IMO that screen is an obelisk and a total eyesore.

It distracts from the game itself.

Even when the broadcast was going on, half of the shots of the field were somehow intruded upon by that dreadful monstrosity.

What in the hell were they thinking? Overkill is overkill.

Punters are going to be hitting that thing on purpose all season just to annoy Jerry Jones -- he is going to have to raise it somehow.

I respect you and all, sir, but... that's not what this thread is about... :D it's about that black thing in the middle and how big it is and how it's there as you stare at its monstruosity... just in the middle... attracting your attention... and how it will get hit by the balls during game time...

But let's talk about the jumbotron now. It should be raised.

I think if you have crappy seats, it makes for a better view of the game. All of a sudden, nosebleeds in an 80,000 seat stadium are a little more worth the price, especially for the six months worth of concerts that no one will be punting anything. I always resented the Cowboys' success, commercially and competitively, but I don't think I can really deny it. I really think you're gonna see a lot more of these around the country in the next 10 - 15 years.

Funny you should mention that because I saw part of a newscast here after they had an open house at the Cowboys' new stadium and one lady called it "the 8th Wonder of the World". I think we've had about 100 8th wonders, including the Astrodome. :D

Funny I was listening to a radio program up here on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas (Newy Scruggs in particular) and they were telling their own experience the first time they went into the Astrodome. They were reflecting back and saying how unimpressed they were at the time they went in the Dome and had all these criticisms. Of course, this was talk within the context about the new Cowboys Stadium. I just found it amusing and hard to believe cause there was a lot of "hype and boners" over the Dome when it first opened. It's easy to look back now and be critical of the Dome. But, at that time, all I remember is everyone salivating about how great it was...enough so to be considered one of the wonders of the world.

Also funny that the money Jerry spent on the hanging video matrix/screen alone in the new stadium cost more than the old Texas Stadium. I personally can't wait to take in a ball game in the new Cowboys Stadium but I'm not really in a huge hurry. I would like to experience it a few times but not necessarily for a concert (which I'm willing to bet the sound is probably pretty bad in there for a concert (but a lot of variables in that including where you sit, etc.)). I thought about seeing Paul McCartney in there but that is too much nostalgia for me. I prefer bands still making fresher music and I don't know of any new Paul McCartney music at all. It wouldn't be my taste if I did. Still would have been an interesting show but not even high on my "concerts I want to see" priority list. My loss is another person's gain.

I was reading U2 forum thread about the shows coming to Dallas and Houston and a guy mentioned that his tour guide at the new stadium said U2 would have to pay $200K to raise the screen so that it doesn't get in the way of their stage:

But that sounds like BS because if they could lift it higher, they would have after all the punts hitting it during practice.

EDIT* just saw the post about them raising it this morning. Still, it ought to be weird. There are spot lights on the stage that are supposed to light up the sky but will now just be hitting the bottom of that screen.
