I really don't think it will be anytime soon....not until the Suns start vying for a new arena, which doesn't seem like it's imminent.
Sports must be easy money and investment that's why so many owners want in. Think about how much the value of franchises has skyrocketed. Invest a billion, you might be able to double it in 10 years
I need to get into that racket. If pro dominos can get on ESPN, I sure the hell can with some cranked-up cockamamie goof juice. ...edit: I just had an amazing idea. Stay tuned, Goof Juice fans!
Atlanta getting a 3rd chance, while Phoenix possibly getting a 2nd chance…. Before Houston even has one chance would be quite comical.
I’m fully conditioned/ready for either the NHL or Houston (or both) to massively screw this up…. The NHL could do something really dumb like try and put two teams in Winnipeg or Calgary…. Or Fertitta could clash with some other energy up and coming houstonian that wants to play with a new sports team toy, and we see every competing plan (including once again, turning the asbesto-dome into an ice hockey arena… because its “paid for”… ). And after everybody fumbles all over themselves, the NHL goes to another work stoppage.
Yep. And of course they need a “natural rival” in some other non major league, sun-belt, town like Alberqurque or El Paso.
I can't get over the feeling that we're somehow being used as leverage. I don't know enough about the situation to tell you by who or for what...just a feeling I have. I almost feel like Tillman is just going through the motions so people don't accuse him on not trying.
I totally get feeling that…but Houston is absolutely at the top of most desirable markets for the NHL…they’ve made that pretty clear. I totally leave open the idea that it could get screwed up, but I don’t think this is about leverage. Tilman is negotiating DOWN the price of the expansion fee, so I’m not sure how these conversations help the NHL for another market.
I just don't see that being the case here. Houston is the ONLY no brainer expansion location. Being used for leverage here just doesn't make any sense when there really isn't an alternative. Atlanta and Arizona have been failures over and over again for hockey. They would be absolutely brain dead to consider either location imo. It's Houston + a less desirable location (Kansas City or Portland imo)
