Ariza benefited from Kobe AND Gasol drawing so much attention. Kobe by himself was never enough to create for the whole team. It's not his fault, having Kwame freaking Brown on the floor will kill any spacing. When Gasol got there it was a whole new offense. Tmac might be a slightly better playmaker than Kobe, but he's not Nash. He needs Yao. Remember what it was like when Deke was starting? Fantastic D, but everything had to run through Tmac. We don't even know if he comes back healthy. Why count on Tmac to make everyone better when this board is convinced he makes everyone worse?
True......we shall see, but I'm not expecting any other than what I saw last season. Pretty good defense.
even the rare few times that he does get by his man, he inexplicably picks up his dribble and gets stuck w/ nowhere to go
I have no doubt he'll be more effective with T-Mac (and Yao). However is he going to be 17.1ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.3apg and 1.5spg (Ron Artest's numbers with us last year) better? Is he going to demand as much effort from opposing teams? Is he going make this team better than we were last year with everyone healthy? HIGHLY doubtful.
Good point. But he would also not have 20 FGA per game Seriously, just give the man time. Time will tell. And I bet Artest's numbers will only decline as he ages.... By the way, seeing that some members wanted Morey to trade for a more effective big man (instead of having Joey and Pops), how about a trade for Andray Blatche? I mean the man has decent size, can score (has a mid range j too), rebounds well, capable of blocking shots, and most importantly, he is only making $3M/year. The only obstacle is that will Wizards be willing to trade him and how much does it cost talent-wise.
mcgrady doesnt nearly dominate the ball as much as kobe does. T-mac is a better passer than kobe, so i think he can give ariza more opportunities than kobe gave him.
He will be MORE EFFICIENT. Artest chucked up a lot of bad shots last year and also dominated the ball. In my honest opinion, Ariza will be a BETTER team player then Ron. I'll take his defense over Ron as well.
He'll be more effective with Yao than with She-Mac. At least Yao is a positive influence and an unselfish teammate, can't say it for another guy who couldn't lead his team to the 2nd round.
Ariza just like everyone else on the roster will benefit if TMAC comes back healthy. His presence alone draws so much attention that TMAC can always find guys good looks. And when he does come back,no more excuses its up to them to knock down their shots and finish plays at a high rate.
So you think McGrady will be around for awhile, huh? I don't think you'll find too many who feel the same way. I think it's popular belief that McGrady will not be a Rocket beyond this season, and there's a decent chance he may not even be a Rocket past the trade deadline. He's pretty much worn out his welcome here.
Ariza needs someone to create shots and scoring opportunities for him. A healthy TMac has proven he can do that. Nobody else on the current roster, with the possible exception of Lowry, is any good at dishing the rock.
The entire board is NOT convinced of that fallacy. its just inundated by a few posters that contort the truth (McG a ballhog/ballstopper/chucker...whiskey, tango, foxtrot!?) ad nauseum. McG has long been the best passing wingman in the game. And his days aren't "numbered" as some would like to believe anymore than anyone else on the team not named Yao.
wait i thought you were the guy who wanted tmac gone precisely because the only way he knows how to play is by dominating the ball which DOESN'T make his teammates better? in order for you to say tmac makes his teammates better as long as he isn't dominating the ball requires you to have seen him play without dominating the ball, which means he doesn't really dominate the ball.
