there is no precedent being set here, I think that's where you go wrong with this. Early in a season like this, everyone is going to be searching for their comfort level. Trevor has always been a fourth option, a shane battier, even thoguh he has the tools to be much more than that. Giving him a chance to stretch his game out for a little while is a good thing. Let him find out what he is really capable of within the confines of this team, and let his teammates find out what their abilities are, can be, and need to be for this team to win. yes, it will be awkward early in this season, but the potential reward is worth it. i think too many people around here are still counting wins like gold, as if playoff seeding is at stake.
Do you think we will win enough games if he and Rick came eye to eye one what he needs to do within his ability? I dont know, I dont think he would be shooting as much as he did like ytd. I think were gonna be losing a lot of games regardless so might as well see what he can do and maybe be ready to give that or less or more when Tmac gets back (regardless of what he can do, Tmac). Honestly, our making the playoffs won't be based on how much we can win. It will be on how much our western brethren will lose. (Dallas losing to Wiz's is a good start)
Question what player do you compare Ariza too in the nba, or in the past of the nba? Could he possibly have some Reggie Miller in him?
McGrady maybe T-mac extra extra light. Another comparsion might be James Posey, very long, great defender, can shoot the ball.
Rick saw something in this kid and dammit it's there. I have faith that there is a good chance that it can come to fruition in the coming months. Patience is key with Adelman's coaching.
Maybe. The Rockets aren't favored to win any of their early games, so I could see the rationale in experimenting at this stage. Anyway, I hope the Rockets are keeping close tabs on what Ariza is doing poorly and going over it with him.
I think the staff sees Hedo Turkoglu in him. You know expecations bringing the ball up some, making the right pass and shooting good. Atleast that is what i see in him just a 2 inch smaller version. Someone said they seen Scottie Pippen in him i think this is beyond expectations. Atleast his defense is some what similar. He needs to keep doing what he is doing and work on not turning it over as much.
Not all entirely true. I remember being disappointed going to playoffs and having a group of people being there just cause they were playing L.A. Didn't even know who Brooks or Scola were. If Trevor does bad then there will always be people that criticize him. If he does good there will always be people criticizing him for not doing better. It's what we in Texas call b****es.
Pippen and Turk can handle the ball. They are legit point-forwards. Ariza's is never gonna be a player who can bring the ball up the court
Is it just me or is Ariza's body control pretty awful. I think it was Rhino17 arguing that Ariza is not super athletic. I agree. He's long, runs pretty fast and has good leaping ability but his coordination, first step, strength and body control (finishing ability at the rim) are pretty poor. He also seems to avoid contact when he does to go the rim. With with is size and wingspan it's a little confusing to see him to try to duck under people and shoot reverse layups rather than just go over the top and draw a foul.
jesus guys, if he could shoot threes, handle, had crazy athleticism, all this body control, first step, strength, length, size etc etc, he wouldn't be an MLE player. matter of fact, he'd be a max player, and his name would be kobe bryant, or lebron james, or whatever. i'm sorry if it comes across as me being overly defensive of the guy, but some of these expectations are totally unrealistic. he's got a lot of room to develop, but come on.
In response to the Wafer basher in here. Didn't wafer get 20+ points a few times before last year? I remember the rockets being a boring team who were struggling right before T mac shut it down last year. Wafer hit shots down the stretch to win games for us and he did things on the court that got the crowd excited which cause us to gain momentum. I could give a care in the world about his attitude as long as he helps us win. It's the coaches job to deal with that personality and get the best out of him on the court or else that coach needs to be replaced.
point is that he is not as athletic as many make him out to be. Also all those things you say he is not here to do are completely true, yet he has been trying to do all those things in the first 2 games. That i
I was just making an observation. Most of what I read/hear about him is how crazy athletic he is and my point (for a while) is that he either isn't THAT athletic or he, for some reason, is unable to demonstrate that athleticism within the context of playing the game. If the later is true he might as well not have the supposed athleticism. I think he is a decent value but I complete disagree about him having a lot of room to develop. He is in his 6th year now. He isn't going to develop new skills at this point. At best, he will polish the ones he has and hopefully become a smarter player. To put a number on it, I would say he is 80-90% of the player he will end up being.
we signed him to the MLE deal MLE = average salary so he's an average player stop expecting him to be LeBron James
