Here we go again with Rockets wing player not showing emotion... Brooks and Hayes dont "look" like they're are energy players either. They're just stoic solemn guys who go out there and do their job. On a Laker's team notorious for getting soft and going through the motions, Ariza was sometimes their only guy still giving effort. Now he's on the Rockets and he's lazy guy. I dont like Ariza in iso situations trying to create off the dribble. I do give him credit for at least having the gumption to attempt playmaking instead of being content as a 5th option. Especially on a team that needs an instigator, needs some scoring mentality. Its showing he just doesnt have the necessary skills to do it consistently.
You are right, it's not just the media, it's everyone. He shouldn't be taking so many shots and trying to create as much. That was an ugly three he threw up against ATL last night, shoulda been CBud (who was sitting, need we harp on this more) or Battier or someone. Not him. It's even more frustrating that he's capable of great defense and easy buckets when he's stealing because he often seems pedestrian on D. I believe he was guarding M. Williams during the first when he was torrid, or at least part of the period. Williams made it look easy with Ariza on him. Overall though, it's easy to be mad this early in the season. He will fall into his role hopefully as we get our guys back, or maybe pick up a playmaker via trade to facilitate him taking less shots and becoming more offensively efficient. I think DM and RA are smart enough to realize he's hurting us by shooting so much, he needs to play to his strengths more.
a coach who would sit a very talented (but very raw) gerald wallace on the bench in sacromento when his man on man defense, blocks, rebounds, and steals could have helped sacromento alot against the lakers in play-off rivalry in the early 2000s. instead they often used peja clone hedo turkoglu off the bench instead. (no defensive)
Adelmans problem has been not staying with the guys that are playing well and switching back to his starters. He needs to stay with the hot hand.
I'm not resting my hopes for Ariza, but imo I think he's doing his best to adjust from a 4th option to 1st/2nd option, the dude's still evolving. People can't just say to a player in his situation, "Go out and give me the f***in' 25-5-5-5-5 every game." He can only do so much, he isn't Durant or Granger or Joe Johnson who have become "franchise players" for their teams. Besides, the Rox are chugging along with the standings. It's probably better if we give the guy a full season first before jumping into something. btw, this thread just reminded me of those "We hate AB" threads last playoffs I wouldn't pick anybody who goes by the name "Ron Artest" or "Crazy Pills" Artest's spotty shot selection as a Rocket < Ariza's ball-handling +1 Well-said and agreed. *** The only way Ariza [or even Brooks for that matter] will be relieved of this pressure on him - is when T-Mac fully heals and returns to the starting five because it's McGrady instead of Ariza who will be tasked to create more often. But the "T-Mac returns" issue is a tad far off, so let's keep an eye on Trevor for a while. Shall we?
watching the kings' pre-game segment on ariza ('Ariza has Arrived') on league pass right now, is there a single greater myth surrounding this team right now than trevor ariza? i'm ecstatic to have him, but he has not been good thus far.
idiot, he got signed for a MLE, he is doing everything that is expected of him for that amount of money. on top of that, he is our leading scorer and our best defender ATM, stfu with all this "mistake" talk cause he had one bad game.
Ariza has so far gotten 41 minutes in this game against the Kings. If he's playing for so long, isn't it reasonable to expect more out of him than 15 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist?
I still do.......he just takes too many shots...... He looks like a 12-14ppg scorer....at an efficient level and a 19ppg shooter at 20 shots per game, which is WAY TO many. DD
lol, true. I like Ariza's talent and what he brings to the table, but personally I feel that- at best- he should be a 6th man and not a starter for a team that hopes to contend for the championship. His shot selection is very poor, and though certain elements of his game can improve with experience and coaching (court vision, ball movement, etc.), there are certain things that simply cant...he's not going to get any quicker for example, and he possesses little to no elevation. Is there a single SG in the west who has less talent offensively (pick a halfway decent team and check the SG's...)? What we need is a SG who has the ability to create his own jumpshot but plays within the team concept, hustles defensively, and doesnt force his teammates into becoming a bunch of spectators when he gets the ball. Sadly, we probably have a player who can do most of those things on our team, but at this point the prospect of 'internal issues' being resolved down seem likely. I see us sticking with Ariza through the season, losing in the first round of the playoffs and spending the offseason trying to acquire someone with the aforementioned basketball acumen.
Oh and before people use the "he played for a championship team as a starter" argument- realize he had Kobe. And Pau. And in the championship he shot the ball with a 35% FG Percentage and 42% from the FT Line. His peak is to be an above average to pretty good player, but I dont think he can lead a team or be a go-to guy in crunch time..
ariza is slowly becoming a ballhog. dude shoots every 2-3 times he touches the ball. thank god lowry was the ballhandler. jesus.
