Please man. You need to watch the Hawks game again. He drove right by Joe Johnson on one play for a lay-up. There was definitely some slashing on that play. Did you see the play where he played the passing lane, tipped ball down the court and finished with the jam? Ariza is very athletic. This thread is lame.
Look, complaining about Ariza is like buying a cheap fair ticket then complaining why you have no food, seated in the very back of the plane etc. I thought DM made it pretty clear: What's so hard to understand about that? Granted even his defense is subpar this season but he's only 24...and we signed him all the way to his prime. At a flat 5.something per year rate. Why are you complaining about him? Do you not know a great deal when you see it?
I cringe everytime I see Ariza with the ball. But his pros outweighs his cons. People are forgetting that we are without our two top scorers right now so somebody needs to step up and Ariza is trying to take it upon himself.
Maybe Ariza wouldn't look as bad if you guys would spend more time watching Aaron Brooks guy walk right by him most of time they come down the court. Brooks decision making skills late in games is horrible and he turns the ball over to much. I didn't like the Ariza signing to begin with, but Brooks is more of an issue right now than Ariza.
he is the reason why we cause as many turnovers from the other team, not a bad signing, he needs to improve his shot selection and dribbling skills under traffic though. I wont go as far a to say it was a bad signing though.
I thought it was a bad signing since there is no star on the team, but the fact that he thinks he is the man makes it worse.
LOL at people saying Ariza is the problem. If the Rockets didn't have 40million sitting on the bench, we wouldn't be having this discussion. We either have Crazy Pills shot selection or Ariza's handles. Pick one. I think Ariza will come around. He's only like 12 games into a season with a new team and new system.
What does that have to do with him shooting so poorly and turning it over more often than a spaz in bed? DD
He is not being asked to be a number 1 now either. He is SHOOTING like he thinks he is number 1......that is a lot of the problem, he is trying to do way to much. DD
I don't know, that seems like something the coach should've picked up on by now... unless that's what he's been asked to do.
I have to agree with this, but I do think that the role somewhat fits him with the offensively inept first unit. Brooks and Scola can't be asked to take every shot with that unit, so Ariza does what he can and sometimes simply takes it too far.
If you want to complain about his bad shooting that is fine but some of you are just complaining just for the sake of complaining if you are whining about his lack of emotion.
I don't know, clearly the team is not trying to post up scola, or run pick n rolls with him nor Brooks. I think Adelman might given him the go for all those shots. Watching a game you can see that we are not playing for Brooks or Scola more enough.
we can just hope as time passes he learns the difference between a good high percentage shot and a bad shot.
He may not be asked to be the #1 guy, but its been reported that Rick wants him to shoot more than he normally would. I prefer Scola at our #1 Option but these days, its a "guard's game" in the NBA. Easier to defend the post as opposed to the perimeter.
I'm well aware of what he is shooting now, which sucks. The point is that 36% is not good from beyond the arc and prior to now, he has never shot above 33%. He has never been a consistent 3 point shooter. It's not his game. I do not expect him to shoot above 33% by much if at all this season.
After the Rockets 3-1 start to the season, they've been going back and forth between wins and losses (L,W,L,W,L,W,L,W,L). In this stretch, Ariza has been particularly horrific offensively. 36% from the field, 30% from the arc, getting to the free throw line less than 3 times a game, a .452 TS%. The media will be tricked into thinking he's a much improved player because he's scoring over twice as many points as before. It's just not the case. Efficiency matters.
