ariza started out this year GREAT. he ran the offense, only picked his spots to go 1-on-1. he was more of a spot up jumpshooter, only penetrated off of passes, and basically was an opportunistic offensive player.

the last 5-7 games or so, he has tried REALLY HARD to show off for some reason (too much dribbling, too many step backs...), and as a result, his fg% is just ridiculously bad. AWFUL. TERRIBLE. PATHETIC. what other adjectives are out there to describe his horrendous offensive display?

we brought him here to be a more athletic version of shane, which is actually a great thing. but now, he's killing us more than helping us.

the reason we're still so good is because of our bench. i think we need to decrease ariza and battier's minutes and increase budinger's minutes to around 25-28.

shane is only good for 15 minutes a game now. ariza is EASILY a role player trying to do too much.

this team belongs to brooks, landry, lowry, and cbud. let THEM create. ariza just needs to now his role.

ugh, i wanna slap ariza everytime he tries to dribble the ball. is this like artest part 2?

I want to see what Morey has to say about Ariza's current downward trend. He gonna play it off by saying his steals are more valuable than his missed shots?

Excellent post, crash. He's pressing. You could tell watching the game tonight. He's been pressing a lot this season, but when he relaxes and lets the game come to him, he shows his real worth. For what we're paying him, the guy is a steal and he'll just get better. Tonight wasn't a great night for him. For Battier, it was awful. Still an amazing game. I love watching this team.

in november through 9 games, here are ariza's shooting stats:

HINT: it's even WORSE than rafer alston

16.8 points (but on 17.1 shots, is that possible to score less than shots taken?)

35.7% fg (rafer must be rolling in his grave)

31.3% 3s (this is not "too bad" except he takes 7.1 3s a game - AGAIN, IS THAT POSSIBLE?)

the good thing, ariza has been playing better defense, esp. the passing lanes with 2.3 steals a game.

but offensively, this is a worse showing than rafer alston. adelman has GOT to be talking to this guy. you can't let a young guy thinking he has the freedom and he just gets worse every game. you want him to get better, not the other way around.

Do you realize that he came to Houston to develop his offensive game?

This is all part of the learning curve.

You learn better when you take good shots, and make them.

The lack of a ball-handling wing is killing the flow of the offense when the starters are in. The halfcourt offense with the starters on the floor is so atrocious it would make Santa Claus himself vomit with rage.

Battier/Ariza/Hayes on the court defensively is awesome.

Offensive... is exactly what they are on the other side of the floor.

we need more AB/lowry/cbud/landry/scola. when we need defense, the others can spot up a few minutes here and there.

our 2nd unit can EASILY whup our 1st unit, which is probably the case in practice.

Can we sub in CBud, Lowry and Andersen just on the offensive side of the floor?

Not unless Morey swindles Stern into allowing line-changes in basketball.

Ariza WILL NEVER a offensive force. He just needs to focus on defense and know his role by being a spot up shooter. His shooting was kind of overrated with a lucky playoffs last year.

Not true, he does it early in the shot clock as well, if he gets an open look at all, he'll take it. Tonight he took that last three with about 14-15 sec still on the clock.

We need T-Mac to play alongside Ariza. A great 2-3 combo (if Tracy's healthy)
Then we ship Battier and Hayes to Portland for Pryzbilla

Flopzilla is way overrated. I don't want that D-Bag here in Houston.

Why does our coach take Chase out of the game after he knocks down buckets? We had a 6 point lead that we built with Ariza on the bench and Chase in the game..Then our coach had a brain fart and put Ariza back in over Chase which caused us to go down by 10.

Chase has proven he is capable if having big 4th quartes in the past. What's wrong with our coach?

Seems like a familiar pattern is developing. There's always a fall guy:

    Steve Francis
    JVG
    Tracy McGrady

And now, is it Trevor Ariza's turn?
