Agreed. Tmac and Yao represent the past. They definitely had their chances and really didn't come through when it counted. The current squad represents the future to which a future star like Bosh or Wade could better be integrated into.

that's true. yao failed to guard boozer in that 7-game series (being coming back from a broken leg surgery nonetheless). what i want to point out is that, it also had to do with jvg's stubbornness. some match-ups were clearly not working, yet jvg never tried any alternatives. and the fact that we lost to utah in the playoffs 2 years in a row kinda leaves a sour taste in the mouths of many rockets fans. it amplifies things.

and you're right. one team should not be the measuring stick of a player. the dream some had troubles with seattle as well. (i know i am bringing up old topics.)

It's gonna depend on how much money Les Alexander is willing to spend. If we are able to attract a big name FA next year, I think this team has potential to be a true contender. Even if Yao doesn't return to old form, he's still a considerably above average center. With this core, Yao, and the fore-mentioned FA, I think we'll be in a good position to contend.

Look I love yao, I do, but is it really necessary to bring him up now?

In the infamous words of a former coach Yao "is not walking through that door" and won't be any time soon.

Let us enjoy the team that is suiting up for us each day and stop thinking about what happens when our absentee superstars are healthy.

I want to love on the team we are putting on the floor tonight against the Lakers... not the one that will suit up in November 2010.

Agree. It's funny that nobody seems to notice that we haven't played a winning team yet. All three opponents currently are below 0.500. Rockets played well, but people seem to start tthinking this is championship level team without Tmac and Yao.

I hear you but the dilemma is that in Yao you had an almost guaranteed bucket in the post and/or free throws. Do you give that up? I think that was something Adelman conceded a while ago. It's a tough choice.

I am a Yao fan. I honestly tell you that I followed Rockets because of Yao. But I also honestly tell you that I am having fun watching this Rockets as an underdog. They are surprisingly entertaining. This team is playing hard without two all-stars. Let's forget Yao and Tmac right now. :)

I believe something else prevents you from expressing your true feelings regarding my post.

So, do you mean Ariza and Budinger will be say nice things about Yao Ming or they will be free of charge?

Yao needs to study film of Divac in Adelman's offense. He's going to have to be an effective passer and shooter from the high post. I believe he can do it, with his work ethic. I'll definitely be rooting for him.

I love our Rockets no matter what, but i think most of you are missing the big picture.

This Roster is designed around Yao being in the middle. All the pieces were brought in because Les and DM know Yao isn't going anywhere unless he doesn't re-sign or we don't re-sign him (we will re-sign him if not because of talent but because he generates $$ in this lousy economy)

Our 1st unit can be a tad bit slower but it doesn't mean they can't speed things up and let Yao catch up, from what I seen in our first 4 games, as long as 2-3 Rockets were willing to run, we can score easy transition points. In the past, we rarely ran because we don't have the players who can finish (Rafer was horrible on the fast break and he repeatedly failed when its a 1on1, T-mac doesn't hustle down the court, Yao is slow, Shane is a 3 point guy, and than we had Luis (we got 1 person willing to hustle down the court but he isn't speedy)

    With a lineup of
    Yao/Hayes
    AB/Lowry
    Ariza/Shane
    Scola/landry
    T-mac/Chase

We can run, especially if T-mac is going to run with the group. If they can't run, just look at the lineup who can shoot the mid-J and 3 pointer and who can drive to the paint. We no longer have a lot of players who are 1 dimensional.

Its silly to think the Rockets who are willing to keep Yao around, would bring in a roster that doesn't make sense. This roster was in place before Yao decided it was going to be surgery.

Rockets are committed to Yao and in some sense still committed to T-mac (they are just waiting to see how healthy he is and how he responds). If T-mac is healthy and can be that 20-5-5 guy, you better believe its still going to be the Yao and T-mac show until Rockets can get other star players. As of right now, I do not think Lebron, Wade, Kobe would even consider coming to Houston.

They don't need Yao and T-mac to play 82 games, they just need them to be healthy for the playoffs and work within the system, which is where they both fail.

I love the guys we have and I love the heart that they play with even more. But to think that we can compete night in and night out with the elite teams with no legit stars / go-to guys just isnt realistic. We looked great against Utah, and we also hit over 50% of our shots. When we shot a lesser percentage - which will in many games - or need to rely on half-court offense as is the case in the playoffs or need someone to score a critical basket we will struggle. With the arguable exception of Detriot, how many "star-less" elite teams, much less championship teams, have there been in the past 20 years???

And we also lost in game 7 by 19 points due to us getting killed on the boards and yao HAPPENS to average 20 points...Hmmm

Anyway, my question is what with the injuries in yao's foot, since we are going to be a bit more fast paced team, will he be able to pick up his running speed?
