I think it's about time for a dedicated thread on Arian's back -- when the pain starts shooting down your legs it could indicate a disc issue. _____ John McClain of the Houston Chronicle expressed concern about Arian Foster's (back, calf) Week 1 availability on Twitter Sunday. "If I'm (coach Gary) Kubiak and Arian Foster has a back injury that's requiring injections and feeling pain in legs, I'm worried about him for opener," wrote McClain. At a Sunday presser, Kubiak revealed Foster's back pain "has gone into his legs," and doctors advised injections to alleviate it. "They tell me these injections take time," said Kubiak. "We're taking our time. ... The running back picture is concerning." Foster has missed every timeline to return to practice the Texans' coaches and medical staff have set in front of him. After three years of overuse, it's fair to wonder if Foster's body is beginning to break down. Aug 18 - 4:24 PM Source: John McClain on Twitter [per Rotoworld]
Asked if there was concern of nerve damage from a back injury, Kubiak said no. "I'm not there yet because I see him work," Kubiak said when asked if he was worried Foster wouldn't be available Week 1. "I see what he's going through. I am concerned about repetitions. That's just me as a coach. ... We gotta do what we gotta do. We're trying to do the smart thing here." It's not easy for Kubiak, who only has one healthy running back on his roster with significant NFL experience right now in Ben Tate. There are coaches who have a reputation for being completely cloak and dagger, like Belichik. And I know that's what Kubes does because that's what Shanny tries to do. But with Kubiak, it feels like the less I hear on something, the worse I expect the news to be.
Most good RB backs last three years? Plus after you get close to 400 carries your production starts to decline. If I was a good athlete, RB is the last position I would want to play. They don't get paid, they take the most punishment, and they have the shortest careers.
If he misses 4 weeks again it's no sweat off my back. I'm fine with Tate for awhile. It's just a running back man.
Should have done a better job protecting him during the season instead of running him 26+ times in games that were over. Kubiak did horrible by Foster last year, getting him something like 470 touches between regular season and postseason. I broke it down on this board already last year, but if I recall, there's NEVER been a RB that had that many touches that didn't either get injured or see a big drop in their YPC.
Is Kubiak a stubborn coach? I know Tate was injured a lot last season, but we still had Justin Forsett who did better than my expectation out of him.
Actually on second thought... He is definitely stubborn. All the third and long - draw plays, never experimenting with something new such as having Tate and Foster out there at the same time. Not finding a new DC until after the historically worst defensive season ever and demand by McNair. Damn Kubiak. You stubborn conservative.
Word on the street is Tate's contract had a half million in incentives/bonuses that the Texans couldn't afford to pay last year, which is why he was "injured" so often.
If foster can't play a couple games means more passes for Schaub. The more reps schaub gets the more accommodated he becomes. Expecting a huge bounce back year for Schaub. Could be a blessing in disguise.
