What happens in this week's game will mean a lot in terms of that "fluid" rehab situation. A win, and I wouldn't expect Foster back before week 3 or 4. A loss?... then anything is on the table.

Grimes and Polk will probably be getting a lot of those carries too. Blue is just not an every down type of back...yet Will be so good to have Foster back. Seems like he's really excited and ready to do work from the interview he had the other day
How does a win in week 1 make a win in week 2 less urgent? I could see a single win/loss late in the season informing a decision like this if the outcome determined the Texans' fate. But I don't think the Texans' margin of error, such that it likely is, affords them the luxury of getting cute. He'll play when he's cleared to play; they need him the minute that happens, regardless of record.
If we beat the Chiefs without Foster, then its not as urgent to get him back bc the offense must have been adequate enough to get the job done against a tough defense. Of course, getting Foster back ASAP is important, but the result of week 1 can determine just exactly how quickly we absolutely need Foster back.
Every game in the NFL is huge; there are only 16. If our coaches take any of them for granted, they should be fired immediately. Game results are irrelevant; Foster should start as soon as he's ready.
Moreso now since they showed they are going to have a hard time winning without him. If even one more week of rest decreases the re-injury/complication rate, AND the Texans were capable of surviving without him, then you could be more conservative. I agree, every game is important. If he's cleared to play, he needs to practice and play this week. We will know come Wednesday. If he's not practicing, he's not playing.
The running game actually did pretty well, it was the beyond foolish decision to start Hoyer that cost the Texans the game. Let Foster heal up.
Not when they're surgically fixed. Now, he may still be favoring it, which could limit his overall effectiveness or could lead to him injuring something else. But in regards to this specific injury, the muscle has been reattached to the bone in a fashion that likely exceeds the "natural" attachment.
I don't think they respected the running game one bit. The Texans had a couple of long runs, but still had trouble picking up the short yardage runs (especially that 4th down). Good running teams have the ability to run consistently even when the other team is gearing up for it. I did not see that yesterday against just an OK Chiefs run defense.
Sure they had short yardage issues, but overall they were getting more than 4 yards per carry.....they just couldn't run very much because of the hole BOB put them in by starting Hoyer.
Skewed by the long runs on the opposite side of the field. They also couldn't run well when they really needed to, even when the Chiefs weren't really trying to stop the run late.
I'm trying to join the debate whether we bring him back early or late... my point is regarding the schedule laid forth. Have you guys looked at it yet? The first 4 games should have/will be pretty favorable matchups: vs Chiefs @ Panthers vs Buccaneers @ Falcons From there things get a little dicey: vs Colts (TNF game) @ Jaguars [meh] @ Dolphins vs Titans [improving somewhat] @ Bengals vs Jets vs Saints @ Bills vs Patriots @ Colts @Titans vs Jaguars Obviously, this is based on week 1 observations but the AFC East is looking to be a pretty formidable division from top to bottom.... things could quite easily change for teams not named the New England Patriots. Yet we still have some pretty tough division teams in the young and improving Titans plus the Colts whom we never seem to beat. Sprinkle in the Saints and Bengals and you may find yourself under .500 by midseason. These next three games are pretty critical (as all our games are, duh) but they should definitely be considered must wins if you're looking at what lies ahead. Hopefully a change at QB and the return of Arian will help. He have a tough road ahead of us and every little bit will count from here on.
