I don't understand how PT didn't happen, he'd allow you to decrease Blue's touches so he could continue to contribute on special teams.

Wouldn't mind giving Chris Johnson a shot. Doesn't match what BoB is reportedly looking for but he's only 1 year removed from a 1,000 yard season and actually had a somewhat productive season given the Jets offense last year.
That's interesting, I wonder if he got a better prognosis there. He was scheduled to have surgery next Monday I thought. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Texans RB Arian Foster will undergo groin surgery in Philadelphia on Friday, source told ESPN.</p>— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/629000091274227712">August 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Yeah, I don't think they were expecting a veteran to contribute on special teams. If so, you don't tryout Pierre Thomas and then ask if he will play special teams. This is strictly a money play by PT and his agent. If the Texans are offering the minimum, they really should offer a little more as it only hurts their pocketbook as we are still under the cap quite a bit. Now, if PT is trying to get an extra year then that is ridiculous and I say good riddance. If he wants 2mil instead of 1mil for this season ONLY, then I say sign him up as he is the most complete back out there without a ton of mileage or big time injury issues on his resume. He has been a pretty underrated back throughout his career.
Polk does seem intriguing. He has pretty good speed and I was impressed with his limited touches in Philly. Hopefully he is a diamond in the rough and is a good pass protector. Any RB gurus out there that know about his vision? That is what separates Foster from average RB to elite RB. If Polk has even 75% of Foster's vision he should be better than Blue given his measurables but I am guessing he isn't as complete of a back to be the lead guy in our offense. Unfortunately, we may not have a choice...
You say that, but there's still the hard cap to consider, and teams will be releasing players during camp that the Texans might want to look at. You want to keep at least a bit of flexibility if you can. It's not like Pierre (or any RB on the scrap heap) was going to be THAT much of a difference maker
I said yesterday that I was more high on Polk atm over Blue and it seems that he may end up getting a legit shot at the starting gig.
Agreed, but aren't we like 8Mil under the cap. Surely no player(s) will break free that will require that big of a commitment. Maybe Pierre is wanting a good chunk of it but if they are arguing over pennies (i.e. thousands) then I think it is too conservative as we really need a solid vet in this committee and not sure who else comes to mind that I would be comfortable with in this offense. I guess it is still crazy early and things will work themselves out as the preseason unfolds but I don't want to end up with a Joe McKnight or Ben Malena as those are big time downgrades from Pierre Thomas IMO.
All this clamoring for Polk by the media is getting out of hand. The guy is at this moment 4th on the depth chart. He is the least healthy RB on the team other than Foster. He hasn't contributed in practices at all since he signed in the offseason. The dude possibly has a high floor, but I don't see him pushing anyone out of the way right now. If you can't get on the field, you aren't taking anyones job. Blue, Grimes, and Hilliard have been there for every snap. Blue especially with him taking Foster and his own snap counts over the past couple days. Heard Hilliard is looking good with his increased work load today. Grimes has been quiet. But Polk has barely been on the field. Some people are even predicting he doesn't make the team. I'm not that low, but if he isn't a full go for the rest of training camp, I expect him to not make the cut.
The cool thing about this Pierre Thomas situation is we can hopefully get some info on it during Hard Knocks next week.
Pretty sure the deal went south when Thomas's agent Lamont wheeled up in there with Rollo. McNair doesn't like being called "Pops".
