The whole debate re: 1992 vs. 2012 is stupid to begin with but even dumber when you take into account how much better our competition is now.
This doesn't make sense. You're saying that 1992 >> 2012, right? And then 1992 >>> 2012 because competition is so much better now? If that's what you're saying, then shouldn't the 1992 team be only slightly better than 2012?
I missed the entire game and im pissed I could have sworn this morning while the British Open, i saw USA vs> Argentina on ESPN tonight at 12:00 AM
Because they like pulling for underdogs, know how much it means to the players and their country, and find the players on the team more appealing.
Doubtful considering some people in this thread were saying things like "is it bad that I'm pulling for Scola and Argentina?" That would imply that it is naturally wrong for him to pull against the Americans... which would lead me to believe that he is American.
Exactly. Comparing both teams would also need to take into account the competition level back then as it is now. Imagine if the actual Dream Team was put in place after the '72 Olympics and instead of Dantley, Kupchak, Grunfeld, Buckner, Ford et al, the U.S. team had Kareem, Pistol Pete, Elvin Hayes, Westphal, maybe Bill Walton, Nate Archibald, Rick Barry, etc. Guys like that. The best pro players in the league at the time. Then perhaps the rest of the world catches up a little earlier. Or maybe not. Maybe it wouldn't have made much of a difference in terms of impact on the Spaniards, Italians, French, etc in the manner that the 92 Dream Team had such an impact. I dunno.
I'm gonna miss Old man Scola.. I realise it was necessary to move in a new direction but still.. What a guy, he'll always hold a special place for me
Dream Team would've taken a sh** all over Argentina. Wouldn't of been a competition at all. Robinson Ewing poop on Scola and whatever other scrub big guy, Jordan and Pippen shut down Manu. That's a wrap Dream Team by 40, yet, '12 can't even put the game away.
It is an exhibition game that doesn't count. Of course I am going to root for former Rocket Luis Scola and his team.

Perhaps, just perhaps ... some of the American players might be divas, unlikable c##ts,and spoiled millionaires. People have their reasons. Although, these players are MONSTER ratings for the Olympics, because they are stars or are something that can draw people in. Sort of like if there was a really beautiful, busty, blonde Track & Field runner from the Czech Republic who looks like Bo Derek. I'm pretty sure she's going to have alot non Czech fans rooting for her, especially if she's actually a good runner more so. If you put her in the 50 yard dash or 100 M relay, you've got a bit more interested viewers. It doesn't even have to be that it could be 3 foot tall guy from Ecuador, or even an 11 year old girl. On another note, it could be a player or athlete involved in a hardship or scandal that might also draw alot lovers and haters to that particular player or athlete.
I think you are discounting the level of talent these teams are playing against. Scola and Manu aren't just going to bend over and take it like the collection of competition in '92 who were basically in awe. this isn't a video game, you play the game for a reason.
