http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4009792 I have no idea why he would want to return with only like 10-12 games left in the season...
its more then likely a move by managment to raise his trade value. He is the one superstar in the league who's stock is as lows as tmacs.
It's lower than McGrady's because his contract runs several more years. He has a lot to prove. Gilbert was one of my favorite players and I hope he can get back to form next season and beyond. I wouldn't worry too much about him these remaining games because he won't be pushing himself very hard.
I don't think I buy this. Not that tanking guarantees you anything in regards to the draft I think it's pretty clear it's in the Wizards' best interest to shut him down for the season and hope that adding a likely top three pick to their Arenas/Jamison/Butler trio will be enough for them to make some noise.....and maybe, quite possibly beat the Cavs in a series.
if he plays, it'll probably be for very limited minutes, and since he's rusty, he probably won't be a positive on the court anyways. his presence on the court won't screw up their tank job.
I agree he probably won't prevent them from losing but I still don't see the point in even bothering with the season dwindling. Is it just so the Wizards can save face a little bit? Make it seem like they're not COMPLETELY inept for giving $110M to a player with knee problems and then seeing that move backfire?
Gotta respect the guy for taking less money to keep his team intact, even if it isn't a great core of guys. The loyalty there is commendable imo.
I hope that Gilbert gets his explosiveness back. Otherwise his career might go SF3 route pretty soon.
He's itching for sure but I read management has other ideas about him playing. He's been practicing with the team for about a month now but its so late into the season why bother playing him in a game, its a lose lose for the team if he reinjures himself. I hope he comes back as good as he was, thats a huge contract for a lot of years.
If they can get Blake Griffin in the draft and Gilbert is finally healthy, watch out for the Wizards. Big lineup: Haywood Griffin Jamison Butler Arenas Small lineup: Griffin Jamison Butler Arenas Young
Dude, he signed a $110M contract that's now widely considered to be one of, if not THE, worst contracts in the NBA. Over the next the next five years he's going to average roughly $18M per year. That's definitely not a pay cut, by any means.
Gilbert is awesome when he's healthy and one of my fav. players. Too bad both of my fav. players are injury prone.
I think part of it has to be the organization thinking that if Gilbert shows some good stuff they might get some more season ticket renewals even with the tough economy.
He mentioned the he will only play home games with the only road exception because against the Cavs. Risky pickup at best.
One of the most overrated superstars in the league. Much like when Antoinne Walker was the man in Boston.
