Hahahaha one of the funniest things I've ever seen on the BBS, don't know why, but it was just hilarious the first time I saw it.
I don't know about you guys. But last time I checked, there are still 5000+ files in my shared folder. With all the legal actions, media coverage of this big suites, RIAA is not the most popular organization now. Instead of embracing the techonology, it's fighting the trend, sort of like farting against the wind. Or from a philospher's point of view, RIAA is digging its own grave.
back when i lived at jester, i couldn't share b/c we had a weekly bandwidth limit and one time i left on sharing and my entire limit was used in 12 hours (people had d/l 1000 songs from me in that time!). this last year, i shared so much i got my kazaa rating to 1000. then after hearing about all the lawsuits i decided to turn off sharing just to be safe and even after all the downlaoding i've done i'm still at 1000. i must've shared one crapload of songs last year. so yes, i download, but now i don't share, i figure i've paid my dues. at least you other suckers keep sharing so i get mine!
If more people were like you...the RIAA wouldn't stand a chance. The RIAA has only gotten this far (which is not far at all) because of people who are scared enough to break the fundamental principles of p2p filesharing.
I still download occassionaly, but I have other ways of getting music that sometimes I can find things that I've had trouble finding even on P2P. I have most of the songs that I want. I used to share files on WinMX, but not on Kazaa, I don't know why. The only reason I would cut someone off would be if they were downloading an entire CD off me. No more than one or two songs from a CD, if you like it that much go buy it.
Once in a while, if I hear on a song on the radio that I fancy, I'll download it for further listening. However, I'd have to say the last ten times I've dled a song, it plays for about 5 seconds, and then starts screeching. PFA if you ask me.
I use mIRC and get full albums that way. Warez bots send albums faster anyways if you know where to look
I only share p*rn files on Kazaa to keep my user rating as "Supreme Being." Meanwhile, as soon as a file is downloaded, I move it to another folder.
Hey, you are my type of guy. Share your p*rn to double the pleasure ! If you have p*rn, you must share it !
No! It is not the right thing to do! I just go and buy a CD with 150 MP3 songs in it. Only costs me around USD 3.00. That's the right thing to do.
This is maybe an ignorant question, but since the federal courts shut down Napster, couldn't they use that precedence to shut down the rest of the P2P softwares like Kazaa? If you only share like 20-50 songs, you should be ok. What are they going to sue you for 200 bucks?
I happened to come across this article talking about Hootie & the Blowfish breaking away from their label Atlantic Records. Anyway there was one part of the article that talked about the big labels and where the music industry is headed. Just thought i'd post this little clip of the article. Jim "Soni" Sonefeld, the drummer for the popular South Carolina rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, is a man who is not afraid to speak his mind, especially when it comes to the current state of the music industry. "It will be interesting to see which way this industry develops in the next few years, because it is completely changing right now," says Sonefeld. "It's going to benefit (the artists). Technology should be allowing music to be cheaper for the fans, and easier (for the fans) to access. As soon as we can get rid of the stinkin' record companies, we'll eliminate the middleman." As stated before, Sonefeld has no difficulty talking bluntly about what he feels is wrong with the music industry. When asked whether he thought recent proposed changes would benefit the artists, Sonefeld says, "You can get a single for 99 cents on Apple (the iTunes online music service), and people are downloading everything else. Who would go out and buy an $18 CD? It doesn't cost that much, 18 bucks, to make a CD; we all know that. The artist isn't getting 13 bucks, they're not getting 8 bucks, they're not getting 6 bucks. It's record companies that are making the jack."
Napster used a central server to store the user names and the names of the files the user had to share. Kazaa, et al, does not use a central server, but a network made up of the users own pcs.
Statistically speaking your chances of getting sued for sharing files is probably about the same as getting hit by lightning. But it's not smart to stand out in a field during a storm and I don't share files . However, the RIAAss can only sue people in the US. So, as we make infromation available that might be censored in other countries, folks in other countries can provide a source of information the RIAA bans for us.
I'm tryin, but all the freakin tards on WinMx put their settings @ single downloads, so everytime I try to use my PP skills, I get qued up...meanwhile I've got 6 people downloading from my files. Go figure. If this keeps up, I'll become a grinch too and quit sharing with the masses.
LHF, I understand your frustration. But the other party you are trying to download file from might be on dial-up connection. It happend to me before, but I never stopped sharing.
