The ideal semi-realistic setup for us is this (while not assuming absurd upsets)

    1. OKC
    2. HOU
    3. SAS
    4. LAC
    5. POR
    6. GSW
    7. PHX
    8. MEM

We'd be on a side with SA, GS and PHX, while keeping OKC, LAC and MEM on the other side. Switch Portland and G.State if need be, but I don't think the Warriors have a realistic shot at #5. Plus, the Warriors have a good shot at wearing down San Antonio in the 1st, setting us up nicely for a 2nd round matchup with them.

^The above post is actually logical

-OKC would probably beat Memphis in the first round but it would take a lot out of them and it'd be a slow slugfest
-Houston would advance against Phoenix. It would be somewhat scary though.
-SA easily gets past the Warriors
-LAC/Portland is a toss-up, but b/c of the Chris Paul factor I think the Clips come out of this 4-3

    Second round is:
    OKC vs. LAC
    HOU vs. SAS

-It seems hard to judge who would win out of the okc-lac matchup, but it would be incredibly entertaining
-Rockets beat the Spurs in 6

    WCF:
    HOU vs. OKC/LAC

-This would be a tough match-up regardless and it would be up in the air. Rockets would not be favored however.

These are the realistic ideal scenarios for the Rockets without any insane divine intervention taking place.

If it were one team, like Hakeem's teams, then maybe I could see this. However, we are talking about having to avoid the Clippers and Thunder, not to mention the Heat or Pacers.

I don't really seem to remember the team that the Spurs, Heat, and Lakers had to avoid to win their championships

    1. Oklahoma City
    2. San Antonio Spurs
    3. Houston Rockets
    4. Los Angeles Clippers
    5. Portland Trailblazers
    6. Phoenix Suns
    7. Dallas Mavericks
    8. Golden State Warriors

Def. Suns in the First Round
Def. San Antonio in the Semifinals
Def. Golden State/Portland in the WC Finals

    I'm praying.

Really want to play Dallas. Would only need tickets as the lodging and food (family) will be taken care of over there! :)

Plus we would sweep them or win in 5 games in the first round. After that I dont care who we play, because we will be a well oiled machine come playoffs time.

Any of these scenarios where we aren't the #2 seed are funny to me. We will finish #2 behind OKC. San Antonio is already fading a bit. Portland will definitely fade. We should finish ahead of the Clippers too.

The one thing I don't want to see is LAC in the 2nd round. I'd love if we were #2 and SA was #3 and have Portland meet us in the WCF. That or have Portland meet us in 2nd round and SA in the WCF.

A part of me wants a first round exit, because this is the first year with all of these guys and I feel as though we have one or two moves left before we become not only champions, but champions for years to come. If we make it to the WCF I find it harder to make these changes (ex: Coach McHale -- although he has exceeded my expectations and has done GREAT, he is not going to win multiple rings despite having a core that might be able to do that).

If this team actually reaches the WCF, it will mean that one of the role players has become a legit 3rd star.

    you guys are way optimistic.

I hope we win one round. That's my honest baseline hope, everything else is gravy.

The ideal match ups would be golden state in the 1st round, San Antonio in the 2nd, OKC last

I agree. I say we take GS in 5, SA in 5 and OKC in 6. Def. Miami in 6 (Game 6 would be in Houston with restored 2-2-1-1-1 format for the Finals)

Why not win it with these guys AND make moves to win multiple rings.

    Just sayin...

Living in Dallas for most, if not all, of Dirk's time in the NBA, I can unequivocally say that I want no part of him in the playoffs as long as he is still playing at a near-elite level. We have no one who can consistently guard him or impact his ability to get off clean looks. He'd be 25+ a night against us, Monta Ellis is a wildcard to say the least, and Carlisle is a beast in terms of having his team prepared to play and in-game strategy.

I lived (suffered) through the collapse of 2005 when the Rox were up 2-0 going home only to get blown out by 40 points in Game 7 and 2011 when they upset the Heat in the Finals. I really don't want to have to deal with Mavs fans if they somehow pull off an upset and knock us out of the playoffs. This Rox team is still so young and will probably need one extended run in the playoffs to harden (pardon the pun) the team and their resolve. Until then, I want no part of Dirk and the Mavs.

    Go Rox!!

GOAT no way! MJ, Hakeem, Shaq, Magic, Kareem, Wilt would all destroy him at their peak.

If OKC remains the top seed, obviously our best bet is to hope us and the spurs get the 2 and 3 seeds and have the Clippers get the 4th seed. Any scenario with only one of LAC or OKC in our bracket means I think we have a real good shot at the West finals.
