Yeah, I was kinda frustrated about that game today. Still, I'm sure Van Gundy will find a way to break the Dallas strategy up. Now that he has one game this season on video tape to break up, I'm sure he'll make the right adjustments for the next encounter. I'm hoping they beat Phoenix tomorrow. About the board, I decided I'm just going to ignore those who flame me. I shouldn't be stooping onto their level. Most people here seem very hostile and they just don't want you to post. Anything you say seem to be suitable for flame. If they're irked they need to express why, but also they should expect that new people coming in and posting something that's already been discussed is part of the nature of all boards. For me, it's exciting to be with a bunch of Rocket fans and talk about Rocket things. It saddens me, though, that the moment I found a great board, several people here are against someone speaking what they feel is not the correct opinion or the " culture " of this board. And for that, we are all losing out. I would seriously be disappointed if the administration bans me here simpily because I said something against what a few others thought was wrong. That should not be the basis for banning and I hope the administration has better judgement then most of these members.
I thought adeelsiddiqui gave you pretty courteous advice, as well have others. The front page of the GARM only allows 15 threads to be shown right now, so posters are policing you so that good threads won't be pushed off by yours onto the 2nd page. I think a nice donation to the tipjar would be in order after this post.
VERY much so. although the rox strong start indicates otherwise, they're still learning and they're doing a good job of it.
I think we all got off with the wrong foot. Obviously, I felt very disrespected in the Yao/Shaq thread...saying something that people find they disagree with doesn't mean they should tell them to go to another board or that I should get a life. It's not very civilized ( I was referring the negative comments to that particular thread ). And I don't get an impression I'm very much wanted here. Of course, I didn't know I was only allowed to post a certain amount of new threads until Clutch kindly pointed it out to me. Had someone done so early on, it would've been nice. Anyway, I'll give this place a try but if the hostility continues I'm leaving. Rocket fans shouldn't be fighting with each other like this.
You'll see a major difference by the end of the year. To be honest, I picked the Rockets as the fifth seed at best...now that I see how serious they play under Van Gundy they have a very realistic chance at being the first seed...and we haven't been a first seed for a very long time. I don't think in the last decade they've been the first seed. Wow. What a difference a coaching change makes ( no offense to Rudy ).
Ricedaddy another thing..... try to answer as many posts as you can in one post, or just avoid answering everyones response to your post it takes up server space it would be really appreciated around here
Rice... Im sorry I got all over your case, but hey I got the flu ,and i was just letting some steam off. You replied to many posters rude posts with a slap back in their face, and this just made you the victim, because they were looking out for the good of the board, and you just shot them down, and now you have many of us pissed off. So I hope that explains atleast my disrespect O and another thing... as wakkoman said you dont have to reply to every post... a general statement replying to all of them is enough... AMS
A couple of more pieces of friendly advice and then Im going to leave your posting style alone. We have had a couple of tipjar telethons recently and people with less posts/thread started than you donated. You should feel priveleged to be a part of this BBS (the biggest and best pro hoops BBS in the NBA), not the other way around. Just keep that in mind, especially when critisizing a group of 3-4 admins trying to police a BBS with over 12,000 registered users.
A couple of advice to you guys as well...when someone comes in here, they may not be aware of the " culture " of this board. It's best to first tell them without flaming what it's like before you go out and flame them. Because flaming people unnecessarily makes them want to leave ( I see people doing that to other newbies around here today ), and if they leave, that makes less people will donate. So let us feel privilaged to have each other instead pointing the blame on who should be privilaged to who.
Well, it seems like most people are on the same page here. As for not being wanted here, that's a wrong impression. We're all Rockets fans (unless stated/proven otherwise), but sometimes we just have to agree to disagree. Sometimes, discussion can get heated, name-calling might arise, opinions may be shot down.....but hey! Unless it gets out of hand, it's all good. So my advice is: try to have a little thicker skin. There are definitely trolls out there, as well as good guys having a bad day and huge differences in opinion. You shouldn't have to leave. Unless you want to leave the best place on the net for Rockets discussion and information!!!
Thick skin, I got. However, I won't put up with people avoiding the topic and calling me third-grade names. That's uncalled for. I used to own my own message board about the size of this place and we had vets flame newbies all the time. I assembled a team of moderators for the sake of eliminating this, so that when people disagreed, they wouldn't do it in a blantant, name-calling way. Otherwise, you'll have a bunch of newbies getting the wrong impression that this place just gangs up on people and won't allow them to state an opinion. If you see the Yao-Shaq thread, you'll see what I mean regarding this. I hope this can be contained a little in the future so people will stick to topics.
Now where would the fun be if we banned all name-calling?!? Sure, we should stick to the topics at hand, but not only is this an informative/insightful site, it is also an entertaining site!!! You gotta admit, some of the names and comments are pretty funny. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then. Of course, when it starts to get personal (e.g. involving family, death threats, what not) then that is inexcusable. People have been banned for saying some really stupid/uncalled for things. But a little, "get a life", "you're an idiot", "go to hell", "you have $hit for brains" never really hurt anybody. Of course, when it's at your expense, then it might not be so funny. But no one is immune to it, everyone gets it once in a while. I've been flamed before too. $hit, I even forgot what they said, cause I don't give a damn. I just laugh at those comments just like I laugh at other comments directed at others. Just curious, you said you managed a board the size of this one? Must've been really big. What was it about/for? And finally, back to topic at hand. JVG can't take all the blame for tonight's loss. Sure, he made some adjustment mistakes. But the players were definitly "off" tonight. The only thing he can do is make the proper adjustments, communicate them effectively to the players, and punish those that don't buy-in until they do. And it seems as if JVG is pretty good at that. So I'm not worried.
You mean like this?? You did everything you could to turn your thread into a "me v. everyone else" flame war and pretty much dared everyone else to do so. Not to mention the fact that most of your posts had a "I'm better than you because I am more rationale than everyone else" tone to them. As the administrator of your own BBS, that is comparable in size to this one, I would hope that you know what it means to "fan the flames" right? Come on man. Seriously. Quit acting like the innocent victim. You knew what you were doing.
Yeah, but those were all responses to flames in the first place. I actually kept the flaming to an absolute minimal because it would've turned into an all-out yo' momma fest had I really been trying. Besides, I'd rather flame Laker fans As a side note, in my old forum, which still exists but is a craphole now because the current owner doesn't know what the hell he's doing, there used to a flame subforum where people flamed just for the sake of flaming. We ran contests...those were some fun times and some creative minds. Anyway. It's late. who cares. We lost to the Mavs. I'm watching the Suns game live tomorrow. Always good to see the Rockets beat the Suns because of what Marbury said last year about Franchise and Yao.
Well, it's just that there may be some good posters that would be turned off if the flaming got too much. I don't mean to tell what people should do here, but in my experience if someone's just stating something and a majority of the people jump on them just because they're new, or some other poitnless reason, it's a good sign that damage control must be done. You guys were speaking about donations. You never know if that person you unnecessarily turned away ( assuming they're not annoying ) could've been a huge donor. The forum I ran was a Final Fantasy forum. It was near the biggest one right up there with FFOnline and FFAlpha. The URL for it is www.shinraonline.com, but don't bother, the place is stale now. It was a golden age when my crew ran it. We had cash prizes every month, some of the best artists you've ever seen, best flamers, best debaters, you name it. It was something. I miss it, but eh, life goes on. The Rockets are playoff bound, I'm happy. Life is good
