I challenge anyone on this board to quit playing basketball for a year, without having a major surgery to rehab, then step back on the court and see if you are even close to as good as you were. If you realstically think you can take a year off, step on the court and pick up where you left off, you are naive and have never worn a jock strap of any kind. Ive been where Yao is on the college level (football, had 4 knee operations), it took a good long while before I was even CLOSE to where I was, eventually i got there. I wasnt a pro, Yao is and one of the hardest working ones at that.
Really? Zydunas illgauskas a CENTER had the same surgery and plays that same amount of time. So do explain please.
Reminds me of an old joke - actually, it's a new one: "How is a used Honda Civic better than Yao Ming?" The Civic gets better than 24 MPG. Thanks a lot, you've been great, I'm here all week!
It is laughable that some posters here actually think some superstars will tend to become a Rocket all of a sudden after getting rid of Yao. We are not going to get one through a trade, and it is always a gamble to tank and draft high, so keep dreaming.....
Why are we having this conversation now? Did Yao play poorly the last 3 or 2 games or get injured again? Sure it's hard to have a big impact by playing 24 min. If you scale his numbers up by a factor of 1.33, I would say the production is quite decent. Isn't that the doctors' prescription? Not Yao's fault. Give the guy a chance!
Yes he did. Based on his performance in the last 3 games, I have to accept the reality that the "Yao era" is over. The dominant version of Yao Ming that we saw before will never come back. We should stop dreaming. The sooner we wake up to reality the better.
One game and 5+ years. The response is reasonable. It's up to Yao and his health to prove people wrong.
As much as id like to move on, its just going to take alot more than 3 games to know Yao's worth. Revive the thread in December.
If the team struggles and he isn't playing more than 30mpg by January/February, then yeah, time to move on.... Has anyone seen BLAKE GRIFFIN? DD
So i guess by your theory we will never get one? And I don't even care about if we get a super-star or not.We simply can't function properly as a team with a 7'6 center coming in and out of games at random moments and never playing on the 2nd night of back to backs. No team can operate at a successful and efficient level with that type of player management.
Blake Griffin is a spry, 21 years old and almost 10 years younger than Yao. The younger you are, the faster the healing process. That is why you have a guy like Amare who had micro jumping and running effectively while a guy like T-Mac is having hard time just jumping 2 feet in the air to get off a jumpshot. Aging is a b****.
The problem with Yao, is even if he gets healthy, gets back to 32ish minutes a game, everyone is on pins and needles waiting for that foot to break again. And if it does, we are screwed for whatever is left on his contract...it is a big risk. DD
Love Yao, but I think that risk is greater than the rewards, and sadly that is just the way it is. I would not resign, so I would try to work a trade. If Yao stays healthy and takes a team to championship, I will be glad for him and sad for us, but, bottom line, I don't think that happens, so I vote trade and see if someone else wants to gamble. However, hold off on that trade until he really gets back in form, then strike while the iron is hot. Will that happen with our owner? Probably not, but that is the prudent thing to do. The rest is wishful thinking.
And what if it doesn't break again? Will you have a full head of gray hair by the end of the season? We'll see how you feel after a nice winning streak.
He hasn't played a whole season in the past 5 years. The fact that you think he can play an entire season without getting injured is comical.
